59 of babies were born of Singaporean parents last year
59% of babies were born of Singaporean parents last year
Channel NewsAsia Channel NewsAsia - Monday, August 4 SINGAPORE: 39,490 babies were born in Singapore last year, but not all were born of Singaporean parents. ADVERTISEMENT In fact, only 59 per cent of them have both a Singaporean mother and a Singaporean father. But if births where at one parent is a foreigner were included, then the figure goes up to 82 per cent. Perhaps what is of great significance is that records of Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) show that Singapore men fathered 75 per cent of all babies born here, while Singapore women account for just 65 per cent. Climbing the career ladder is one reason sociologists give for the low fertility rate among Singapore women, particularly among those with degrees. Associate Professor Angelique Chan, assistant head of Department of Sociology at the National University of Singapore, said: "A woman puts a lot of effort, time, overtime, into her work in her early 20s, mid—late 20s, then she gets to be about 30 years old and then she is thinking about marriage but it’s hard for her to find someone (at that age). The older you get, the more entrenched you get in your lifestyle....and it gets harder to adapt to another person." If Singapore men are fathering more babies than Singapore women are giving birth to, then who is delivering the goods? 6,071 babies were born to Singapore fathers whose wives are Malaysians, Indonesians, Chinese nationals, or are from other countries in the region. Some women from further afield have also been increasing Singapore’s birth rate. Singapore’s Total Fertility Rate — which measures the average number of children a woman will have in her lifetime — currently stands at 1.29. Among the Malay and Indian communities, their birth rates have fallen steadily from year 2000 to 2006. While the birth rate among the Chinese community has crept up very slightly, it still remains the lowest of all the three races. — CNA/ir from the looks of things, i think ICA should consider loosening their restrictions on visas, so more of the foreign ladies can come make babies, to boost our birth rates.

Possible Case 1 Robert - Marry foreign wife with kids. Buy 1 get many free. Carrot - Marry foreign wife. After giving birth wife left. Possible Case 2 Richer man sayang wife and worries wife can't take birth pain so adopt. Stress factor here causes infertility result in adopting more babies. Real Case Foreign women are delivering the goods lah... So simple..... Ok back to bro suteerak1099's comment, the restriction are already loosen so what is the main issue. The nation. Richer getting richer, poor getting poorer. Those who can see clearly will not want to take risk. Why put ourselve in to deep shit (debts - to give the needs to the kids) just to fulfill the government need. We aren't machine. As them go and fly kite. One moment adjust the minister's wages and after increasing twice tell the nation not advisible to increase wages to off set the inflation. Without over coming the current problem how to plan further. In other words, plan ahead and die now. Siow!!!

Re: 59 of babies were born of Singaporean parents last year
well ... dun think anyone would be surprised ...
Maybe for those narrow-minded people ... yeah, maybe ... To be mothers, women must be family-minded and place more emphasis on the family ... And S'porean girls ? Well, not all but there are a lot that either a) very career-minded b) wants it all; both career and family but unwilling to sacrifice anything ... So how to have babies, no choice for S'porean guys to import 'foreign talents'

All these problems could be solved if everyone simply used condoms.

1. SGD increasing in value as compared to USD and other currencies, probably with the exception of the euro. so, we sgreans should be able to buy more with the same amount of disposable income, no??? 2. i just found out that a 10kg rice costs $10 more now!!! with the increase in value of SGD, dont tell me that the same packet of rice increased by 80%!!! but the rice producers said they increase only 20-25% mah... who the fuck is eating the 55%!!!??? 3. everything else increased in price except for the bloody house brands. but, but, but i learnt from school that supermarkets make bloody much more from their house brands than anything else they sell!!! i tot gahmen supposed to help people instead of riding on the supposed inflation and make money??? no??? nothing to do with sex??? it is eating into my call-chicken budget!!! hehe... since everything they also want to put 1 leg into it, might as well allow the minister to impregnate those single SG women above 35! it would increase birth rates, the sg women will get screwed by smart and rich men (that's what they want, right?) and then the gahmen can subsidise the child... |

Re: 59 of babies were born of Singaporean parents last year
SG men marry foreign wives from vietnam, china and etc. Then, SG women also bo pian and gotta hunt for rich turtle overseas. Its a vicious cycle. Eventually, not many of the Singaporean husband n wife will remain.
The jaded singaporeans either remain single or c if fate can get them hitched. Its worrying. Soon, the Sillyporean population will die out cos' there isn't enough of "us" or the population is too diluted to be even considered "Singaporean". It prob won't affect the bros here, as we will likely to ve kicked the bucket when all these happen or going to happen. I was at this training course. Most of the participants (who happen to be young also) come from different parts of the world. Those locals are minority and are really senior citizens. Scary siah....

Re: 59 of babies were born of Singaporean parents last year
corporate ladder climbing is just 1 of the phases, when she hits 30, sick n tired of office politics, she aims to be CEO. she will then hurriedly find a man to marry, n she be the boss at home, to lash the whip.
