KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will extend its full cooperation to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) in its probe against two senior government officers over a multi-million ringgit corruption case. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman, in a statement today, welcomed the investigation by MACC, adding that the government will provide the necessary assistance. "Let the authorities conduct their investigation without fear of favour. "The State government will study the system and procedures on the tendering and awarding of projects in all departments to identify weaknesses or loopholes that provide opportunities for corruption and abuse of power." Musa reminded those in the civil service to continue upholding the integrity of their respective office when discharging their duties and responsibilities. Yesterday, MACC arrested a director and a deputy director of a Sabah government department over suspicion of having monopolised projects under the purview of their department and awarding them to their relatives. Both senior officers were said to have handled infrastructure construction projects valued at more than RM3.3 billion since 2010. Following their arrests, MACC picked up the deputy director's brother and an accountant, who is believed to have helped managed the ill-gotten gains. Their arrests led to the seizure of RM112 million cash, including that recovered from bank accounts belonging to the senior officers and their family members. A total of RM52 million in cash was confiscated during raids at the officers' offices and homes. The four suspects are being remanded for seven days, starting today.
