7 eulogies for Mr S R Nathan at State Funeral on Friday - Channel NewsAsia channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/3072580.html (Posted 25 Aug 2016 13:06) SINGAPORE: Seven eulogies will be delivered at former President S R Nathan’s State Funeral on Friday (Aug 26), the Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) said on Thursday. The eulogies will be presented in the following order: - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong; - Professor Tommy Koh, Ambassador-at-Large, Special Adviser to the Institute of Policy Studies and NUS Professor of Law; - Mr Zainul Abidin Rasheed, non-resident Ambassador to Kuwait and former Senior Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; - Ms Jennie Chua, co-founder of Beeworks, known for her previous positions in the tourism, hotels and property sectors; - Mr Ramaswamy Athappan, chairman and CEO of Fairfax Asia and CEO of First Capital Insurance; - Mr Chan Chun Sing, NTUC Secretary-General and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office; and - Mr Gopinath Pillai, Ambassador-at-Large and chairman of the Institute of South Asian Studies at NUS. The eulogies will be delivered at the funeral service, which will take place at the National University of Singapore’s University Cultural Centre from 3pm to 5pm. After the eulogies, the Chief Mourner and Mr Lee will each lay a wreath, following which President Tony Tan Keng Yam will present the State Flag and Accoutrements to the Chief Mourner. A lone bugler from the SAF Military Band will then sound the Last Post. Traditionally, the Last Post marks the end of the day's labour and the onset of the night's rest. In the context of a funeral, it represents a final salute to the deceased. A minute of silence will be observed, after which the Rouse will then be sounded – a symbolic call back to duty after respect has been paid to the memory of the deceased. The casket will then be marched out of UCC Hall, marking the end of the State Funeral Service. Click here to view the whole thread at www.sammyboy.com. |
