Police protection for Sarawak Report editor

PETALING JAYA
SARAWAK Report's editor, Clare Rewcastle-Brown, has been given police protection in London after being stalked in Hyde Park, The Independent reported.

Ms Rewcastle-Brown, sister-in-law of former British prime minister Gordon Brown, alleged that she had been subjected to "sinister surveillance operations" in London where she lives.

She then sought support from the Metropolitan Police, after apparently being staked out and photographed having tea while meeting a former Malaysian official who was on holiday there.

"I have had to put in police reports that I have been stalked and followed," she was quoted as saying by the British daily on Wednesday.

Ms Rewcastle-Brown is facing an arrest warrant in Malaysia for allegedly carrying out activities "detrimental to parliamentary democracy", over publishing reports on alleged corruption implicating Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Her website, Sarawak Report, also alleged that former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail was preparing an arrest warrant for the prime minister before he was removed last month.

On Wednesday, the police obtained an arrest warrant for Ms Rewcastle-Brown and would apply to have her placed on Interpol's Red Notice list.

She had described the warrant for her arrest taken by the police as being "counter-productive" and said what she had done was "to publish information".
