Hoarder from cockroach-infested Eunos Crescent flat getting treatment at IMH - See mo

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

SINGAPORE - Madam Soh Siew Zhen, 66, a hoarder who was living in a cockroach-infested flat in Eunos Crescent with her husband, has been seeing a psychiatrist for a mental disorder, evening daily Lianhe Wanbao reported on Tuesday.

The paper added that her husband, Mr Lim Chin Ting, 74, said that his wife has been at the Institute of Mental Health for two weeks, and that she is being taken care of by their daughter.

The couple have not been on speaking terms for 20 years.

Madam Soh had filled the rooms with old newspapers, clothes, boxes and other items which became a breeding ground for cockroaches.


Their home has been cleared by a team of people from from grassroots organisations, the Housing Board, and the National Environment Agency.

While Mr Lim said he still encounters unpleasant smells from time to time, he is living in a house with clear rooms and kitchen after a long time.

The couple have lived in the flat since 1977.

Their plight came to light when a neighbour Ms Nur'Ashikin posted a video on Facebook on April 27 of cockroaches swarming the corridor.
