SINGAPORE — They don’t sing, they don’t dance and they sleep more than 20 hours a day, but an Australian all-girl group creating a buzz locally is now here — and expected to finally meet with fans in late May.

The female koalas, Chan, Idalia, Paddle and Pelita, arrived in Singapore on Monday on a Qantas Airways flight from Brisbane, and will be quarantined at the zoo for a month before being revealed to the public, Wildlife Reserves Singapore said in a statement today (April 16).

They will make the Singapore Zoo their home for the next six months. The furry envoys are a gift to mark the Republic’s 50th anniversary of independence, as well as the 50th anniversary of ties between the two countries.

“These lovely creatures are excellent animal ambassadors for Australia, offering a peek into the biodiversity of eucalyptus forests,” said the chairman of Wildlife Reserves Singapore, Ms Claire Chiang. “They will no doubt charm zoo visitors of all ages when the exhibit officially opens.”

The koala exhibit will be unveiled next month with a grand housewarming party and a series of activities for visitors to the zoo, the statement said.
