They were supposed to have paid sex in his lorry at an open-air carpark.

But the 41-year-old prostitute called off the deal as the man did not have a condom on him.

He then threatened her with a penknife, hit her with a gear stick and drove off while she was still in the lorry.

She escaped only by jumping from the moving lorry, getting injured in the process.

Yesterday, Abdul Jalil Mohamad Yusof, 34, a deliveryman, was jailed 18 months for criminally intimidating the prostitute, failing to stop the vehicle for her to alight, driving a vehicle while disqualified from driving, and consuming drugs.

He was also banned from driving for 18 months.

On Oct 2 last year, Abdul Jalil was driving a lorry along Lorong 25 Geylang around 2am when he spotted the prostitute - a Chinese national who was here on a social visit pass.

He drove up to her and used hand gestures to engage her services and bargain a fee with her.

After agreeing on a price of $80, she boarded his lorry.

He drove her to a carpark in Genting Lane, where he paid her and they began kissing.

She asked him if he had a condom with him.

When he said no, she refused to continue and they argued.

Abdul Jalil took a penknife on the dashboard and pointed it at her.

He also hit her with a 30cm-long pink gear stick and punched her face.

He then drove out of the carpark.

Fearing for her safety, the prostitute tried to escape but Abdul Jalil had locked the doors.

She also pulled the steering wheel and the gear stick in a bid to stop the vehicle. After much fiddling, she unlocked the passenger door but Abdul Jalil refused to stop.

She then grabbed items she found on the dashboard and threw them out of the lorry to get him to stop. He continued driving.

ESCAPE

She finally slowed the vehicle by pulling his steering wheel and escaped by jumping out of the moving vehicle somewhere along Chancery Lane.

On the same day, the woman went to Changi General Hospital with abrasions, bruises and injuries all over her body.

Abdul Jalil was arrested at 1.20pm that day at an HDB block in Ubi Road by police officers as they suspected he had consumed drugs.

He was taken to Cantonment Police Complex and his urine tested positive for methamphetamine, also known as Ice.

Court papers said he was under a 12-year driving ban, which began in January last year.

Yesterday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ryan David Lee said Abdul Jalil was no stranger to violence, having been previously convicted for snatch theft and twice for robbery.

Abdul Jalil had also been previously convicted for driving without a licence on three occasions and for driving while disqualified two other times.

Abdul Jalil's lawyer said in mitigation that his client, who is married with three children aged six, 11 and 12, was stressed at the time of the offences as he and his wife were separating.
