Thumbs up PAP cock up forgot to ask Karen Tan not to sign UN Arms Treaty

An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:

Sinkie land is one of biggest sellers of illegal arms to sanctioned countries and now going to sign this treaty. Sure or not?. If they couldn't sell to arms embargoed Myanmar African warlords (SAR-80), and Serbian conflict participants (Ultimax), they would hardly have any business at all.

Singapore signs Arms Trade Treaty

The Arms Trade Treaty aims to eliminate the illicit trade of conventional arms and prevent their diversion. This is through a set of common international standards that regulates the international transfer of conventional arms.

NEW YORK: Singapore signed the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) at the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs in New York on Friday (Dec 5).

The ATT aims to eliminate the illicit trade of conventional arms and prevent their diversion. This is through a set of common international standards that regulates the international transfer of conventional arms.

The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said in a statement that Singapore has consistently supported the broad principles and objectives of the ATT. It has also participated actively in the discussions and negotiations on the ATT since the start of the process in 2006.

Meanwhile, the republic is currently working to implement these obligations domestically. The signing further reaffirmed Singapore's commitment to international efforts to eliminate the threat posed by the illicit arms trade, and to international disarmament and non-proliferation initiatives that promote global peace and security

Apart from the ATT, Singapore also works closely with countries around the world to impede the proliferation of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosive weapons.
