JAKARTA – Foreigners who want to marry Indonesian women may have to pay a deposit of 500 million rupiah ($83,000). The Supreme Court is mulling this new clause, following a recommendation made by top judges across the country.

who keep the deposit? how can i be assured that this monies will be given to the rightful beneficiaries - in this case, the wife and kids if the foreign husband divorce her? not that i can trust indon administration so much...

how long the deposit is to be maintained - ie refundable under what condition? if no divorce after 30 years, how? Rp500 mil today maybe worth more (appreciation in rate plus accumulated interest) or could go downhill coz due to incompetent govt (maybe 10 years down the road, Rp500mil worth only S$5k, just like the Banana money)......

The first question is .. what if the women curi ayam and the man files for divorce and the money still goes to 'protect the women and her children' ?
