Fish Leong slammed for her condolences towards MH370

Chinese netizens have expressed their dissatisfaction towards the singer by posting harsh comments online

Malaysian Mandopop singer Fish Leong was bombarded with a slew of criticism from Chinese netizens after she retweeted an announcement that flight MH370 had crashed into the southern Indian Ocean with no survivors, together with words of condolences on her Weibo account.

Her tweet, which included three candle icons as a mark of respect for the deceased, has been deemed insensitive and was slammed by the Chinese, who have had more than 150 fellow countrymen on board.

They have responded with countless negative remarks, which included words to ban her and fellow Malaysians from stepping into mainland China.

Fans of the 35-year-old, however, took to her defense and left supporting messages like “Why bully a mother-to-be? Where has the ethics of Chinese gone to?”, “There are bound to be silly people doing silly things. I am abashed to be of the same nationality as these brainless people,” and “Come bomb Malaysia if you can, as if you are so patriotic.”

This is not the first time, Fish has been slammed online. When she expressed her support for her countrymen during the London Olympics in 2012, she was condemned as being unpatriotic (as she was thought to be Chinese).
