I was surprised. Yet at the same time, incredibly annoyed. You know how it's like when you're head over heels for someone in your youth. The desperate claws of hope, clutching unto thin air, hoping that you'll be relieved from the torment yet silently hoping for the person to return.
When I looked up and saw her, the emotional tug-of-war immediately ceased and my first thoughts were to jump up and hug her. But I played it cool and simply ate the apple without talking to her. Frankly speaking, I didn't know what to say. My emotions were raw and my heart was sprinting but my lips were tight.
She took a seat beside me and began to unload her bag. From the corner of my eye, I could see that she was observing me and I shifted my eyes away. Then she grabbed the apple out of my hands and took a bite. Annoyed, I snatched it back and took a bite. We repeated this. Somehow, we found a rhythm in taking our shots at the apple and little did I know this would eventually be our thing.
Me: Do you like the apple?
V: Nods*
Me: What about me?
V: Blushes and nods*
We spoke about what happened at home. She shared that the divorce is finalised and it is affecting her, but instead of being alone, she wanted to be with me. We spent the rest of the afternoon at the library sharing more about our lives and then I walked her to the sports hall for volleyball.
