Bros,

i need your kind advise as in which hotel should i stay ni Tacheleik which is presentable and near border. pls advise on the price as well.

After some discussion, i had decided to stay in Tacheleik for a couple of days.

Any good reasonable price restaurant that i can patronise?

i would avoid changing money into FCC, no longer a legal requirement and why support the the Burmese governement by staying in Government hotels when you can get rooms in family owned businesses by paying Baht/US.

Hi Bro,

I stayed in Lucky Hotel, approximately 8kms (20mins) from the border. Rate per nite is THB600. Clean, new & spacious hotel. I stayed there for 4 nights last month.

The best hotel to stay in and literally at the border within 10 mins walk from the custom is the BRAND NEW 5 Star Allure Resort in Tachilek. Casino included. Check it out at http://www.allureresort.com/. You can make booking from here and they will pick you up at Chiang Rai Airport. There are many other "hotels" in Tachilek but standards are not up to par and I trust you would not try them. In fact there is one just half way up the hill in the middle of the city. Can try that if you are adventurous.

If you need something cheaper but presentable, I suggest you stay in Thai side since moving in and out Myanmar is simple. If so, try Wang Tong (800-900B) or Good Night House (500-700B) just outside Mae Sai near Pa Muek Soi 13 (2km from border). Wang Tong is a 8 storey hotel but is showing its age while Good Night is brand new with nice new room and friendly host. Even cheaper can try Tai Tong 300m down from Wang Tong on the main road (400B -500B) air-con but old. Cheap cheap one can try Yunnan Guest House (200-300B) but .....

As for restuarant, tachilek side is quite dirty, only if stomach is strong. On thai side just over the bridge on the left (if you are coming in from Myanmar) there is a small complex call Mae Sai Complex or something.. on the third floor there is a restaurant call Sachol Restaurant, good food, great price, friendly server. Order Tom Che (clear taohu soup), Egg fried with Namm are specialty. Good view of the river Sai also

There is also a good Zhi Char, or Tam Sung, road side store in front of Tai Tong hotel. Good value, free radish soup.

BBQ buffet at JJ also good about 800m down from the bridge on the right if you are coming in from Myanmar, 60 or 80B a person.

At night, disco at BM.. near to JJ.
