Unhappy Wrong diagnosis? Need help, recommend doctor

I'm diagnosed with genital warts from dsc... but I'm a little suspicious over the diagnosis..

can symptoms appear less than a day after exposure(eg. exposure yesterday fri night and symptoms appear on sat)?

noticed 2 red bumps/pimples on the scrotum.. around 0.5 to 1mm each.. near to the base of penis. so far no pain or itch..

visited a cat150 angpai with bbbj 10days before the symptom and a prc fl (no bj) 1 night before the symptom. both with cd for vaginal intercourse.

went to dsc 2days after symptom. 1st inspection from the nurse say its just my blood vessel. then when doc inspect (medical officer room, not registrar). doc look for a long time, before saying "it looks like the beginning of warts" refering to the 2 small bumps. then he proceed to other areas to look for more. he pointed to the area on the right joining to my legs (below my stomache)... it is a brown flat patch which is rather huge (around 5mm to 1cm).. & say that is also warts.

doc then explained that although mine dont look like those pics that i may have seen in the dsc posters.. he say they r warts. & transmission can be skin to skin or even auto transmit from hands to skin.
my mind's in a blank then..couldnt think...

I proceed to treatment room for liquid nitrogen.
but now, to think back, i already have that big brown patch long ago even before i'm sexually active (80% sure..in my memory.. it was there long ago from young)...
so could it be misdiagnosed? will there be harmful effectives to those parts since i already have 1 session of liquid nitrogen? the doc is with visiting doc-to-become students... wat would doc say to me if not 100% sure?

genital warts can only be diagnosed in clinical inspection... so whats the chances of wrong diagnosis?

i do hope its wrong diagnosis... as i'm all stressed up now..
wat is done cant be undone... this ends my 6th sexual exposure...

shd i go back to dsc for another doctor to diagnose? can someone recommend me a good doctor else where and roughly let me know the consultation charges?

my next worry is to go and pass other blood tests in few weeks time.
which tests shd i do?

Thanks!

& i urge all bros to think twice...

i'm surprised dsc doctors just examine by naked eye.. & that the doc have to adjust the lighting again and again to check the area... poor lighting condition...
no spray, magnifying glass, microscope or watever...

wat shd i do? back to dsc for another doc? see outside doc? continue with nitrogen treatment?

Got doubts go see another doctor for a second opinion but don't mention to him about the earlier diagnosis. If it turns out wrong sue the bugger for malpratice! If it turns out to be correct. My condolences.

Re: Wrong diagnosis? Need help, recommend doctor

If you doubt your doctor's diagnosis. I suggest seeking a 2nd opinion which wouldn't hurt, and may prove encouraging to your condition.

I suggest visiting the National Skin Centre for a dermatologist (skin specialist) to have a look at your growth. They would be more experienced in looking at skin growths and would be at a better position to make a proper diagnosis.

At present, there is no known cure for the genital warts (HPV). However, there are several methods of removing growths whenever they emerge. But this does not eradicate the virus in your body - recurrence is possible.

When a diagnosis is sustained. It will be your responsibility to take precautions of preventing transmission of the virus to others. If you are married, it is advisable to cover the infected areas of your body to prevent transmission to your spouse. Women are at risks for developing cervical cancer from HPV infections.

Be responsible. Stay well.

the problem is i have gone through 1 session of liquid nitrogen... & the pimples look different now... looks bigger ... like a burnt wound... same goes to my original 'mold'...
so i guess it's harder to examine... & i have to tell the doc whats going on...
really need a gd experience doc... no point sueing the doc..
my next nitrogen treatment is 1 week away...

what shd i do? wait for more growths to confirm i got it?
what if the pimples r destroyed through the nitrogen treatment.. & i dun have new growths... how could i confirm i got genital warts?

national health care's a gd suggestion... but i believe there may be inexperience doctors as well.. since this concerns clinical examination by looking at the area.. are there any methods to confirm beside looking?

anyway my mind's in a mess getting this... i hope to make the right choice..
thanks for the replies

Bro birdbrain,

NSC treats skin related conditions only. Genital Warts manifests as a skin growth, which is a dermatological speciality.

Your aim now is to determine whether you are infected with HPV from tissue sampling or blood testing by a lab. Once a diagnosis is confirmed, then the subsequent treatment would be aimed at removing skin growths which NSC has the facilities to do.

I suggest that you go to a polyclinic first, and ask for a referral to NSC. That way, you will receive government subsidy for treatments. The savings are substantial.

NSC can be reached at: http://www.nsc.gov.sg/

why didnt u ask for a blood test which is 200% more accurate compared to physical checks in dimm lighting in the first place?

Symptoms don't appear overnight. If you do have HPV, it was caused by an earlier exposure.

HPV is very common. It is estimated that at least 70% of the population is infected. Amongst whores, the infection rate is even higher.

I would venture to say that ANYONE who indulges in commercial sex regularly is infected. However, most don't show any symptoms so they are not aware that they harbour the virus.

Chances are the doctor was just lazy. After all only certain people will go to DSC. Either way since you have already gone for 1 treatment just complete to be on the safe side and ease of mind.

Well, although what you said may hold some truth. Diagnosis are just not 100% accurate as well. So it is definitely good to get a second opinion if one doubts the first. It is the fundamental rights of a patient.

That is why I suggested that Bro birdbrain to pay a Dermatologist a visit. At least they would be able to make recommendations based upon the lesions present on his skin.

I believe if the diagnosis is sustained, NSC would also have the facilities to offer him alternative treatments to remove the growths.

By the way, BigBallMan: there are NO blood tests available to diagnose HPV.

Treatments currently available for removal of HPV skin growth are:

Treatments done in the doctor's office include:

Quote:
a) Cryotherapy: This is freezing off the wart with liquid nitrogen.

b) Podophyllin: A chemical compound to get rid of the warts. This is an older treatment and is not widely used today.

c) TCA (trichloracetic acid): Another chemical compound applied to the surface of the wart.

d)Cutting off warts: This has the advantage of getting rid of warts in a single office visit.

e) Electrocautery: Burning off warts with an electrical current.

f) Laser therapy: Using an intense light to destroy warts. This is used for larger or extensive warts, especially those that have not responded well to other treatments. Laser can be very expensive and is not available in all provider's offices.
NSC as a skin centre would have most of the services listed above. DSC may have limited options.
