SBF Wants PAP To Help Them Undercut Sinkies! Fark SBF!
An honorable member of the Coffee Shop Has Just Posted the Following:
Quote: The Singapore Business Federation (SBF) wants the government to stop increasing the foreign worker levies. It also wants the government to remove the levies for S Pass holders. SBF said that business costs are still too high and said that by imposing the foreign worker levies, the government is making costs even higher for companies artificially. SBF also wants the government to remove levies for S Pass holders as there are already dependency ratio ceilings and minimum salary requirements to curb their hiring. In addition, SBF also wants the government to continue giving out more money to businesses by extending the Productivity and Innovation Credit (PIC) Bonus and Wage Credit Scheme (WCS) for three years. The PIC gives money to businesses to invest in making their businesses more productivity while the WCS tops up 40 percent of wage increments for workers who earn below $4,000. Last month, the SPF also asked the government to step in to defray medical costs for employers. Finally, SBF also said that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) should be central to Singapore's economic growth and asked the government to prioritise its focus on them. It is calling for the government to set up a new authority to help SMEs become global competitive players. Businesses and SMEs in Singapore have been highlighting the problem of high rents to the government for the past few years. However, their pleas have fallen on deaf years. Instead of reducing rents, the government has instead said that it would give out the PIC and WCS to help alleviate costs. However, the disbursement process to businesses which qualify for PIC is not transparent, which also means that not all companies benefit. Instead of keeping rents high and then giving out the PIC in a non-transparent way and the WCS for just the short term, a longer term and more sustainable solution would be to reduce costs, specifically rents, so that businesses will have the immediate cost savings to improve productivity. On top of that, a minimum wage law which would ensure that businesses then channel part of the cost savings into increasing the wages of workers would also a more long-sighted solution. However, the government continues to insist on collecting high rents to boost its revenue and to control how it wants to spend on businesses via the PIC and WCS. But such micromanagement and an over-intrusion into the economy is precisely what can negatively affect the Singapore economy in the longer term. http://therealsingapore.com/content/...-s-pass-levies If the PAP further cuts foreign worker levies, bosses would be biased towards higher foreigners because they are cheaper.
