IN the interest of improving road safety, the Singapore Transport Association (STA) is encouraging companies operating large vehicles to adopt an intelligent, vehicle-mounted system that monitors the driving habits of their drivers.

It has teamed up with Spring Singapore, which will subsidise the cost of adopting the Mobileye Telematics Advanced Driver Assistance System through its Capability Development Grant.

The system, launched yesterday, aims to reduce the number of road accidents involving drivers in the transportation and logistics sector in the following ways.

Firstly, the device - consisting of a windshield-mounted smart camera and display screen - warns drivers of imminent collisions with vehicles ahead by calculating the distance and relative speed of both vehicles.
