thai people... let them swipe card, they lose control 1. they already have such bad money mnaagement, giving them a "VIP" card makes things worse i think
Did not know abt this $5 fee.....thought debit card same as credit card....then its not worth it liao. Ya I think should drop the idea they got no control one as the episode with my phone card proves it

Re: thai baht rate update

Since when signing for purchases, there is a charge of $5, there is no such charge, there will be a charge of 1% for the Visa, 1.1% for the MC and 1% for the card issuer on top of the most unfavourable exchange rate U will be getting. However, U can disable the signing option so that the other person cannot sign for purchases. Anyway, usually for debit card signing, it is only up to SGD2k per day. This is actually because, banks wants to promote the credit card with its higher potential charges that it could earn.

The name on the debit card, U can actually specify another person's name, usually only up to 19 characters for all cards.

Re: thai baht rate update

Hello,
I've been visiting BKK, everytime i spend about $30SGD ($5 SGD per transation) on ATM withdrawls. Are there any other ways that waives such ATM transation fees in foreign countries? I have a UOB account in Singapore, but have never tried withdrawling from a UOB thai ATM before, i wonder if it would be free or cheaper.

I tried opening a bank of bangkok, but they require me to produce work permit which i don't have. So my next trip up i might be opening K bank as i heard no need to produce work permit. Thats my last resort and i'm not sure if it works or not.

Brothers please advice.. how do you withdraw $$ in thailand?

Pardon me... I'm curious abt the discussion here regarding sending money to yr tiraks. I meant why spending so much time discussing it. It is a thread on the Baht rate. From what I see, if you have the abilities to sponsor yr tirak oversea, why bother with this few dollars charges? It's like saving a penny, spending a dollar...

Every drop makes an ocean......shares quoted on the stock exchange fluctuate by cents can translate to millions. Sending money to Thailand is related to baht rate update thus many bros are discussing it here too but if majority agree with you then we can shift it to a new thread...Bro SoloHavoc actually started a new thread & got no reply thus I directed him here.

I believe bro Norikasan55 has answered your question. As to opening account I ever opened with Bangkok Bank & they dont need work permit too but require a recommendation letter from existing customer

the last time i checked siam commercial bank do not require WP to open savings account. take note in Thailand different branches of the same bank may have different policies. cock up eh? haha.

if you chiong Thailand frequently please open a Thai bank account. if not anti-SG tau pao sian 84gunner will accuse you to have cash flow problem if you do not have one!

UOB sg and UOB thailand is 2 different equities, there will still be a transection fee.

Hi,
Thanks for helping me out brother. At page 99 of this thread, one brother says that UOB sing & thai are of different equities, thus there will be service charge.

I have a mailing address in thailand (my girlfriends home), and my girlfriend has a bank of bangkok savings account. Which bank of bangkok branch did you go to apply for a savings a/c? can you please tell me more on how my girlfriend is going about getting a recommendation letter since she a existing customer?
