Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
Everton is going to alternate between a 4-4-2 n 4-5-1 formation next season....In attack, Everton has nt one but 2 emerging talents in James Vaughan n Victor Anichebe...Moyes probably need to bring in another proven striker (possibly Nugent) to take some load off AJ n ship out the carcass of James Beattie....James Mcfadden can still play a part in midfield n attack........
In: Nugent Out: Beattie As for midfield, Everton 4 first choice midefielders r Phil Neville, Arteta, Carsley n Cahill.....Leon Osman will play the role of the 5th midfielder if Moyes decide to play a 4-5-1 formation....In terms of cover, Moyes only has Manuel Fernandes n Mcfadden....Manuel is still officially on loan from Benfica so Moyes has his work cut out for him in strengthening his midfield.....Possible acquisitions r Phi Jag, Koumas n Scharner.....I personally admire Nolan of Bolton n his talents will be greater exploited at Goodison Park than at Reebok Stadium....Hope Moyes can try to sign him given the current turmoil at Bolton..... In: P. Jag, Nolan, Koumas (a direct replacement for Mcfadden if he leaves) Out: None Defence is definitely the weakest area for Everton in terms of number...Everton 1st choice lineup for defence is Hibbert,Stubbs,Yobo n Lescott.....The cover for Hibbert is Neville n the cover for central defence is Lescott while there r 3 cover for the left back slots - Pistone, Valente n Naysmith....Pistone can also cover for central defence during emergency....So Naysmith is likely to b scarificed for Everton to sign another utility man to cover Hibbert...Till now, beside being linked with the Shef Wed defender,Frankie Simek, there r no news on the defence front for Everton... In: N.A. Out: Naysmith

Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
£10m offer will test Boro's desire to keep Downing
EVERTON are determined to sign Stewart Downing and will try to tempt Middlesbrough into selling their prize asset by offering a players plus cash deal worth around £10m for the England international. Downing, the subject of offers from Tottenham in recent years, is this summer's number one target for Toffees boss David Moyes. Middlesbrough will be reluctant to sell given they have already lost Mark Viduka to Newcastle and Ayegbeni Yakubu continues to attract attention from Premiership rivals. With £12m the sum being mentioned in relation to Yakubu leaving, Boro will feel homegrown Downing is worth more than that so it would take something special for manager Gareth Southgate to even consider letting him go. But sources on Merseyside insist Everton will not be put off easily and will make an approach to the Riverside hierarchy within the next couple of weeks. Financially Moyes is not well armed in the transfer market and it is thought they would be unwilling to go over the £7m mark as things stand, which would be nowhere near Boro's valuation. However, Southgate is on the look out for a number of new players to bolster his squad ahead of the new campaign. And former Middlesbrough targets James Beattie, unsettled after an unsuccessful stint under Moyes, and winger Andy van der Meyde could be offered as makeweights in a cash-plus-players deal. Beattie, a powerful striker who has endured a difficult time since his £6m switch from Southampton two years ago, is looking for a fresh challenge having fallen down the pecking order under Moyes. And in van der Meyde, the former Inter Milan winger who was considered by Boro in the summer of 2005, they have a winger capable of filling the right midfield berth Southgate has been looking to fill this summer. But even then Southgate - despite having Adam Johnson waiting in the wings to slot in on the left - would try to resist Everton's advances. If striker Andy Johnson's apparent hopes of returning to London are granted with a move to West Ham, then Everton could be armed with an extra £15m in their transfer budget. Clearly Moyes' arm would be strengthened considerably in his pursuit of Downing and, even if he is initially knocked back, there is a strong likelihood he will come calling again for the talented England man. It is the third summer in a row Boro have had to face up to the prospect of having to fend off interest from clubs. Last August Tottenham made it known they had made their final offer for Downing, only for Boro to reject the deal out of hand. Spurs manager Martin Jol had tracked the 22-year-old for more than a year but, after continuing to be knocked back by the Teessiders, the Dutchman turned his attentions to Steed Malbranque. Retaining the services of Downing was one of Southgate's first tasks after succeeding Steve McClaren as Middlesbrough manager and it is a problem that looks unlikely to go away. It comes at a time when he is also having to deal with growing interest in Nigerian striker Yakubu. The 24-year-old is wanted by Portsmouth, while West Ham are preparing to make their own move after missing out on Charlton's Darren Bent.

Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
United close to releasing Jagielka
SHEFFIELD UNITED are on the verge of conceding defeat in their attempts to persuade Phil Jagielka not to join Everton. If an independent arbitration panel goes against them and refuses to overturn their relegation from the Premiership next week, club chiefs will then admit that a fight for financial compensation is the best they can hope for. And once their Championship status is confirmed for next season, Everton are then free to trigger the £4million release clause that will enable Jagielka to complete his desired move to Goodison. Blades plc chairman Kevin McCabe has told Jagielka to delay a decision on his future until after Tuesday, when a final decision is due on United’s appeal. (finally the saga can come to an end... )

Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
Per Kroldrup (Everton)
Sadly for Toffees fans, Kroldrup was no Great Dane. Hailed by boss David Moyes after signing from Udinese for £5m, the centre-half started only one game — and that was a 4-0 drubbing by Aston Villa. Kroldrup played a total of just 147 minutes, costing Everton £13,600 for each of them when he was sold to Fiorentina for £3m after just six months.

Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
Suitors need £5.5m for Koumas
The 27-year-old is high on a number of Premier League clubs' wanted list after the Baggies missed out on a place in England's top tier following defeat to Derby in the Championship play-off final. But Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has already proved he intends to hang on to the club's prize assets, turning down a £4million bid for Koumas from Wigan and a reported £7million offer for Koumas and Diomansy Kamara from Fulham. Peace has confirmed he will only sell the likes of Koumas and Kamara for 'head-turning money' - and is believed to rate the Wales midfielder at around £5.5million as he still has two years left to run on his contract at The Hawthorns. Koumas cost £2.25million when he signed from Tranmere in August 2002 - and scored 10 goals last season. But Albion's current valuation of him is unlikely to deter the likes of Blackburn, Fulham, Sunderland and Latics, who all have plenty of cash to play with thanks to the Premier League's lucrative new Sky deal. Rovers boss Mark Hughes is keen to be reunited with Koumas after working with him during his tenure as Wales boss, while Black Cats chief Roy Keane is believed to be tracking Albion defender Paul McShane as well as the Welshman. Aston Villa and Everton have also been linked with summer bids for Koumas, who is "happy to stay" at The Hawthorns if no club meets the asking price, according to his agent Peter McIntosh.

Re: Toffee Chatroom - Everton FC
Hammers enter race for Nugent
Nugent is currently in Holland with the England Under-21 side participating in the European Championship and has been unable to talk to clubs while the tournament is ongoing. However, that has not stopped the long-time Everton target being strongly linked with a move to newly-promoted Sunderland. But now the Hammers have emerged as contenders for the 22-year-old's signature after Bent turned down a move to Upton Park, according to the Lancashire Evening Post. With England facing Holland in the semi-finals on Wednesday, interested parties will have to wait until Thursday at the earliest to hold talks with the hitman. Nugent has been linked with a move to a host of Premiership clubs after scoring 17 goals for the Lilywhites last season. He made his international debut in March, scoring in a 3-0 victory over Andorra.
