Lets do the maths. Probably you may save about 100K dong on ticket by going to local place for massage. But consider this, you pay extra taxi fare to get there, get lower quality girls as most pretty girl tends to work in D1, those places caters to locals u dont speak their language so u get rip off paying more tips for being a foreigner. It could end up cheaper to play in tourist area.

Even if you are seasoned traveller and good in bargaining. It isnt worthwhile as how much time you have in Vietnam for holiday. The cost saving is insignificant.
In D1 massage like vien dong and dainam, the amount of tip is review by couple of bros here. If you insist on paying 300K, some girls may try their luck ask u for a little more like 100-200K extra. If u do not obliged, the most u get is black face rather than extortion from thugs.

If you like companionship and overnight. The best way is to invest some time and money on girls you meet in bar, ktv or those who work in Singapore. When you go hcm, you can arrange to meet them up. They will bring you around and stay overnight with u. Some girls will even pick u at the airport.
