14 – Pronouns
========================
Here we go, pronouns: See lesson 13 if you’re confused

Tôi I
Bạn You
Chúng ta, chúng tôi, bọn ḿnh We
Họ, chúng nó They
Cụ ấy, ông ấy, bác ấy, chú ấy, anh ấy, em ấy He
Cụ ấy, bà ấy, bác ấy, cô ấy, chị ấy, em ấy She
Nó It

ấy is added to some pronouns to create third person pronouns

This list is not comprehensive. There’re too many pronouns in Vietnamese....

15 – The Time Traveller – Past, Present, Future Tense
================================================== ================
There is no need to conjugate any verb, just add one of đă, đang, sẽ, định, mới in front of the verb and you have the correct tense.

•đă: past tense - subject + đă + verb – someone did something
•đang: present – subject + đang + verb – someone is doing something
•sẽ: future – subject + sẽ + verb – someone will do something
•định: someone plans to do something - subject + định + verb
•mới: someone just did something – subject + mới + verb

Tôi đă ăn cơm tối
I did eat dinner

Tôi đang học tiếng Việt
I am studying Vietnamese

Chị ấy sẽ đi chợ mua rau
She will go to the supermarket to buy vegetables

Ông định nghỉ hưu sớm
He plans to retire early

Kim Oanh mới đến Sydney
Kim Oanh just arrived in Sydney

Vietnamese is not exact or strict about verb tense. A lot of times, đă, đang, and sẽ are dropped from the sentence if a time is specified like hôm qua (yesterday – past), ngày mai (tomorrow – future), năm sau(next year). For more time marker, see the last part of Lesson 9

Hôm qua trời mưa rất to
Yesterday the sky rained very heavy
Yesterday it rained very heavily.

Ngày mai trời nắng lắm
tomorrow the sky sunny very
Tomorrow it will be very sunny.

Asking questions: Subject + đă/đang/sẽ/định/mới + verb + object + ǵ vậy (what)?
You can replace ǵ vậy (what) with other question words such as ở đâu (where), bao giờ/khi nào (when), như thế nào (how), etc.

Anh đang làm ǵ vậy?
You currently do what?
What are you doing?

Anh đang đọc email
I currently read email
I’m reading email.

Em định xem phim ở đâu?
You plan to watch movie where?
Where do you plan to watch movie?

Em định xem phim ở rạp AMC
I plan to watch movie at AMC

Re: Tieng Viet lovers club

16 – Very – quá, rất, lắm
===================================
Using quá, rất & lắm to emphasize something is very common in Vietnamese.

Very + adjective = adjective + lắm

Bông hoa này đẹp lắm
Flower this beautiful very
This flower is very beautiful

like/want something + very much = subject + verb + object + lắm

Bà thích tập yoga lắm
She likes yoga very much

Rất is the same as lắm, but is placed before the adjective or verb: rất + adjective/verb

Mùa này mưa rất to
Season this rain very hard
This season, it rains very hard.

Ông rất thích đánh tennis
He very much like playing tennis
He likes playing tennis very much.

Quá is used to exlaim something, either very good, or very bad. It can be placed either before or after the adjective: adjective + quá or quá + adjective

Cái máy ảnh này bền quá
(classifier) camera this durable very
This camera is very durable!

Đôi giầy kia đắt quá
Pair of shoes that expensive too
That pair of shoes are too expensive!
