In general, SHA is quite a safe place for foreigners as compared to southern part of China. To answer this question, it is also necessary to know whether you :
- speak fluent Mandarin ? - is this your first trip to SHA ? - any local friends in SHA ? If the above answers are YES, then it is real safe to cheong in SHA, unless you choose to go some funny places far away from downtown, or you want to engage some risky activities, then this will be totally different stories. I used to visit SHA on my own during last few yrs, after a while, you will meet local friends there and everything will be easy to move around. On questions from other bros about KTVs in SHA; I found that the upper class of KTVs are getting more and more expensive in this city. 4-5 yrs ago, I used to visit some clubs that frequently visited by TW/HK movie stars or singers (many of them are quite famous), a small room only cost you 680rmb with tip 300 to the girls and mommy. Few months ago, when I was in SHA trying to visit a new club, the rate for a small rate has increased upto 888rmb with tip of 500rmb... of course, there will always be cheap and low cost joints mainly for local SHA folks, located far away from the downtown, however, the quality and standard of the girls will be bad...
