Re: Tieng Viet lovers club
Seeking a husband – hard job of IZ workers
================================================== ======= VietNamNet Bridge – At 8am, the night shift finishes after an alarm sounds but up to 20 minutes later--Lieu, a worker of Hoya company, in Bac Thang Long Industrial Zone (IZ), Hanoi, stepped out of the IZ gate with dark circles around her eyes after a sleepless night. On the way to her boarding house, Lieu pointed to the Thang Long Bridge, sighed and said that she would quit her current job to find a new one and rent a new room on the other side of the bridge. Lieu said her salary would reduce but she could not stay here. “I’m 28 already. If I keep staying here, I will be unable to find my man,” she added. Difficult to find a husband Lieu was born in the northern province of Thai Binh, in a family with five sisters. Lieu left Thai Binh to Hanoi to seek a job after graduating high school. Lieu has done many jobs, from an Internet café employee to a filling station staff to a waitress and now a worker at the Bac Thang Long IZ. She said that compared to her previous jobs, the current one was the best because she earned at least VND4 million ($200) a month, including salary, allowances, overtime pay, etc. However, to earn VND4 million, Lieu had to work up to 12 hours a day. The morning shift starts from 8am to 8pm while the evening shift is from 8pm to 8am of the next day. After work, Lieu and other workers went to their boarding houses to change clothes and sleep. Lieu’s life has been unchanged for three years, since she worked at the IZ: working and sleeping. She did not have time for dating. “My mum and my sisters usually call me to urge me to get married. Each time I returned home, they also repeated that “getting married” song. I’m scare of it and don’t want to go home,” Lieu said. There are six rooms at Lieu’s boarding house, with five rooms hired by female workers and one room by a young couple. Lieu pointed to the room at the end of the row and said it was the room of a 34-year-old single woman. “Her hometown is Thai Nguyen, very near from here, but she went home only several times a year. Perhaps she was afraid of being induced to get married by her parents. Today she is on morning shift so she will be here at 8.30pm or 9pm,” Lieu said. She took me to the boarding house which is next to her house to see Lai, a worker from Thanh Hoa province. Lai was the luckiest girl among Lieu’s friends at the Bac Thang Long IZ because she has a boyfriend. Lai’s boyfriend worked far from her workplace so they mainly saw each other through phone. “In this land, it is difficult to find a good man. Picky girls are easily left on the shelf. There are a lot of spinsters here,” Lai said. Lai’s previous roommate was a girl named Huyen, 27. When Huyen just moved into the room, Lai knew for sure that she did not have a boyfriend yet. Several months later, Lai saw Huyen talked on the phone with some guy every afternoon. Huyen said she talked to her boyfriend, who was working in South Korea. “I was jealous with the way she coddled herself on the phone. I also have a boyfriend but I could not wheedle him like her,” Lai said. But one day, when Huyen was talking with her boyfriend, her phone bell rang. Huyen went pale. Several days later, Huyen admitted that she felt alone and she envied with Lai, so Huyen deluded herself of having a distant boyfriend to talk with him everyday. Huyen imagined a boyfriend in South Korea and pretended to call him everyday. After that Huyen left this boarding house and had never contacted with her roommate. Calculation for happiness Hieu, a female worker of the Canon company in Bac Thang Long IZ, was born in Thanh Hoa province. Her family has six people but has only several hundreds of square meters of field. Her sisters and brothers could only finished secondary schools. Hieu is the last girl so she was allowed to finish high school. After graduation, Hieu followed her brother to Hanoi to work. She studied accounting and was enrolled by Canon. She has worked for Canon for nearly three years. If the dream of female workers in the Bac Thang Long IZ is having a boyfriend, Hieu’s dream has become reality. Her boyfriend even has a big house and is a Hanoi resident. Hieu, therefore, was willing to give him everything, even her body and her money. But Hieu’s boyfriend was not a faithful man. He had relationship with other girls. Hieu talked to him about marriage several times but he did not agree. Finally, Hieu decided to get pregnant, hoping that she could “tie” her man by their child. However, Hieu’s boyfriend asked her to have abortion and promised to marry her at the year end. After Hieu had abortion, the man broke up with her to date another girl. “I’ve learnt from myself. No calculation can bind a man who does not really love me,” Hieu said. Hieu pointed to the opposite room and said: “Ms. Hoa in that room is also unhappy. She has lived with her boyfriend for six years and had abortions several times, but her boyfriend does not want to marry her. She is now as thin as a wafer. I don’t know whether she can have baby or not,” Hieu said. There are dozens of obstetric clinics around boarding houses of workers of Bac Thang Long IZ. A staff of A.B clinic in Hau Duong hamlet, Dong Anh district, said that most of patients were IZ workers. Tens of workers came to this clinic each day for having abortion. The abortion service fee is quite cheap, VND500,000 ($25). Some workers used this service several times a year. Quynh Anh
