1 you dont have to fight over choice of girls
2 as its you and her/s, with no spectators or observers the girls are wilder and less inhibited inside the room

1 if you arent a ladies man and dont know how to entertain a girl or get her laughing with your lame jokes tehn it can be awkward
2 the cost MAY be higher, ie some places charge a hourly rate 300-400khr, you cant share the mommy tips 200-500k, you cant share the obligatory fruit plater costs of 100-200k, but its better to go solo and carry those costs, then go with guys u barely know who are heavy drinkers, whilst u drink very little, or who are too shy to interact with teh girls but expect the girls to initiate and just sit tehre drinking or god forbid sing badly...then dont forget the easy guys who say YES to every request the girl makes to inflate your bill....then at the end of teh night not only do u have to share their portion of the beer they imbibed, but effectively they ahve cocked blocked all your attempts to "beast" your girl as whenever you attempt to get sexual with your girl she will get all shy with the spectators and will remind you how gentlemanly your "frens" are and why must you be so "dam tac". So end of teh night not sure how much money u have saved but definately your enjoyment has been curtailed
Yeah I agree too. Groupings where you don't know the other guys well and have not explicitly set down rules of conduct normally end with somebody being a pain in the ass. Good points by someone with obviously more experience in those places than myself. My own visits to those have just been different degrees of disaster. I tried solo ONCE. This was a now-gone place on Nguyen Phi Khanh street. I was taken to a room and beers brought in. I tipped mamasan 200,000 at the outset, which I'd been told was wise, and which was the going rate to get good service in those days. A lineup was brought in and it was really sub-par, nothing interesting basically. Afternoon here by the way, not sure it matters or not. I selected one of them who was barely ok. She sat down and we started having the beers and fruit. I think I'm (at least on this occasion) in the category of not being a ladies man because I was not able to get any fun going, and she wasn't really trying either. She was not initiating anything, and my efforts were pushed away. After about an hour it was obvious that this was a dead end, nothing to be salvaged. I didn't want her phone number, she was no fun to be with. I got my bill, and with tips and everything it cost over a million. So for a no-fun-at-all visit, it cost me that much. On the way out I was able to see much cuter young girls than were in my lineup sitting around in the hallway.
I've had at least one visit that was like you describe, with a group, big bill and no fun, I got there later and when it came time for me to get a girl they just kept bringing in one unattractive one, they did that a few times until I just accepted they had no cute girls available. Then a guy who came after me, they brought in a cute one to show him and he got her, so it was pretty frustrating.
I went to one with just one Vietnamese guy -- he got the fun, I got the butterfly who kept leaving the room and not coming back. I was the one paying, treating my VN friend. It reached the point of absurdity where I was just sitting there for 20 minutes watching him play with his girl, while I sat alone drinking my beer.
This next one doesn't count cuz it wasn't in Saigon, but in another small town, a few times I ran into pure ripoff situations where after we left the room, the staff opened all the remaining beer bottles in the case, I even literally caught them in the act once, and then they charged us for the whole case. Refusing to pay that inflated bill led them to grab clubs and rocks to threaten to hit us with. But I think this can only happen if you are way out there. I don't think there's a risk of anything like this happening in areas that foreigners frequent (at least I hope not).

This reminds me of some times when I went to places with buddies who really shoudl have known better.
Once was with a friend who always liked to bargain hard for everything. It was one of those girl bars on HBT when that was good and reasonably priced. I was with a girl I had met before there, he was with another girl, and me and mine sat across from he and his. Well, he liked flirting in an attention-getting way, and that led to their bargaining ("you take me hotel") and haggling over the price in a way that it was like the center of attention for the whole table, and he enjoyed the game of teasing her with comebacks to whatever she said, and also I sensed he had no intention at all of taking the girl to a hotel, but was just enjoying this teasing game. Another time with another buddy, this at Sixteen bar in district 3 (still there, I think), two of us had a couple girls at our table, and they asked for drinks which we obliged, but then they didn't exactly warm up to us after that, it was a bit difficult, our Vietnamese not really good enough to carry things. I went to use the toilet, expecting to come back and try more, and if that failed, invite different girls over. I came back to our table and the girls were gone. My friend started telling me that he got pissed off at their attitude and told them to leave, and he was still a bit heated when he was saying this, so I guess he had a bad scene with them when I was away. I was like, Dude, what the fuck. Why did you fucking do that.
And I knew both these guys well, had no reason to expect things would go this badly with them. Sometimes places like these can bring out the hidden retard in people you think you know. These and other bad experiences led me to focus on going to mongering places solo and not with friends.
There was someone recently reporting about the massage in Japanese area (Le Thanh Ton and Ngo Van Nam vicintiy, especially small alleys in that area) which have FS on offer for 2 million or higher. So if one is ok with a high price, this is an option.
The girl bars on Bui Vien and Do Quang Do have plenty of girls these days, more after about 9pm. I hear varying reports on their prices but maybe as low as 1 million or high as 1.5 million.
Will you be going out solo? Or with a group? It makes a big difference in what type places you want to go to. If solo, of course you don't want to go to KTV or bia om. If with a group, cafe oms are awkward if you have a few guys together. And are you aiming for bargain prices or willing to spend?
