Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

[last part]

I could be flippant and tell you I don’t know what Google is (I have never used a computer in my life). I could point out that internet searches are as likely to mislead as to inform. But the truth is that we went way beyond Google in our check-ups. We retained Price Waterhouse Coopers to advise us on the fabric of the deal, and they received assurances from Rothschilds, one of the most respected and respectable names in global finance, who vouched for both Tom Hicks and George Gillett. Indeed, Rothschilds - who were representing Gillett and Hicks - telephoned a non-executive director of LFC, Keith Clayton, to assure him that both were good for the money. Could we have done more? Probably - though under those circumstances, in that time-frame, probably not. We did our due diligence on Messrs Gillett and Hicks and if we’re guilty of anything it is that, after four years searching, we may have been too keen, too ready to hear the good news that George and Tom had passed their tests.

The Google question, along with any suggestion that the shareholders and I preferred the Gillett/Hicks bid because it promised to net us more money, is a source of anger to me. Internet culture is inexact and gossip-driven… to suggest anyone at our football club would run a financial health-check via a search engine is just silly. Don’t forget that everyone was delighted with their takeover at the time. Significant shareholders like Granada and Steve Morgan were insistent the board of LFC should accept the G&H offer, and left me in no doubt about my legal duty to accept the offer. George and Tom were carried shoulder high through the city centre on the afternoon of the Barcelona game in March 2007 - it wasn’t just me who was taken in. And as for the extra money I netted from the G&H deal - you really don’t know me if you think that was a factor. Ultimately, the deal we signed up to was laid it in unambiguous terms in the share offer document. That is a matter of fact. But at the end of the day you can carry out any number of checks with infinite degrees of scrutiny and certainty, but I doubt there’s any procedure available that will legislate for a guy you’ve come to trust looking you in the eye, telling you one thing and doing the exact opposite.

As I’ve already said, I feel no duty to justify myself and in writing to you now there is much I’ve withheld out of decency, more than duty. There’s also the very real possibility that, in speaking out, I might derail the process that many believe I can positively effect. But it has been hard for me, sitting mute on the sidelines as the club I love suffers one blow after another. Since resigning from the board I have not set foot inside Anfield - and it hurts. I hugely regret selling the club to George Gillett and Tom Hicks. I believe that, at best, they have bitten off much more than they can chew. Giving them that benefit of the doubt - that they started off with grand ideals that they were never realistically going to achieve - I call upon them now to stand back, accept their limitations as joint owners of Liverpool Football Club, acknowledge their role in the club‘s current demise, and stand aside, with dignity, to allow someone else to take up the challenge. Don’t punish the club’s supporters any more - God knows they’ve taken enough. Take an offer, be realistic over the price, make it possible. Let the club go. It is a sign of strength, not weakness, to concede for the greater good.
Yours faithfully,
David Moores

Sounds like someone is trying to cover his own ass and not be accused of destroying our Liverpool to the clowns who know nutz about football!

I can't stomach the fact that the club I so love and adore is in such a terrible mess. No money to buy good players, in big debts, demoralized staffs and players... this is Liverpool we're talking about! We shouldn't be in this state. Had David Moores had make the right decision to sell to someone who at least can afford to buy the club without taking the loan, we definitely would not have ended this way.

I can understand if we do not win the Premier League. What I cannot take it is that our club is nothing right now.

I seriously hope the Yankees can stop being ridiculous and move on. Stop being such an ass and get lost! And yea, screw u too David Moores!

Exactly, defending himself only. What about coughing up some of that dough he pocketed from the sale to buy a star player now??

first,we have to get rid of those two americans.
second, need to buy a few very good quality players before the world cup as after it,their prices will increase if they have a good world cup.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

hi bros,

with all due respects to what have been said about G&H leaving.. it isnt going to be fast and easy, no matter how unpopular they are, they have the legal rights to hold the club, unless they are forced to sell by bankruptcy law or the banks who lend them money, which isnt happening. in fact, i got to seriously salute them for being a shrewd businessman. not bowing to the voice of supporters and hold on to get the best price possible.

and the latest news said that Hicks goin to hold on and back Rafa in the market this coming season?

hmm.. dont see them leaving in the next few years, and one of them said, its probably going to take 3 years to sell??

new rulings by FA Premier League forced clubs to have certain homegrown players will force some clubs (Man City? Chelsea?) to abandon buying overseas talents.. i think Rafa got that right when he focus alot on youth development. hopefully the fruits will bear when time comes.. (Pacheho, Jack Robinson, Amoo, Ngoo, Jonjo..)

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

So what happens if Rafa leaves?
Who's gona replace him?
Jurgen? McClaren? or Maradona?

All clubs are busy securing deals for new players but if Rafa leaves now, how long will it takes to secure a new manager? And by that time that happens, we will be extremely late in the transfer market and will only be able to scope up "unwanted" players.. haizz.. freaking Yanks sure have bad timings when making their useless decision.

What we need is a vote of confidence, a note of faith from the management to boost morale and improve unity.

Our club is lacking serious direction and we're be even more doomed come next season... i am just so upset about all this shit.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Personally for me, RB has already lost his touch.
Gone were the days in 2004, gone were the days in 2008..
The final nail in the coffin is the performance in 2009-2010.
As many fans would beg to differ, supporting liverpool on a consistancy level ? i would rather they change the whole management for a risk, rather than being mid table for the next few season i see.

Professional soccer is different, millions of pounds are moving every single day, so what stability are you talking about ?

Unless you are always mid or bottom table where your cash flow isnt that great, we should take some risks hoping to rectify this problem (Starting from the Manager).

This news shows the corporate thinking as most businesses should take.

Personal opinion anyway, millions of fans with diff views everyday.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

From Liverpool FC Statement - Liverpool FC

Liverpool FC today confirmed that Rafael Benitez is to leave the club by mutual consent.

Mr Benitez relinquishes his position as team manager after six years and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their grateful thanks for his services and wish him all the best in his future career.

The Board has now asked Managing Director Christian Purslow, with the assistance of Club Ambassador Kenny Dalglish, to begin a formal search to identify and assess potential candidates for the managerial position.

No timescale has been placed on the process and Liverpool FC will make no further statement until a new manager is appointed.

LFC Chairman Martin Broughton said: "Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.''

Rafael Benitez said: "It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.

"I'll always keep in my heart the good times I've had here, the strong and loyal support of the fans in the tough times and the love from Liverpool. I have no words to thank you enough for all these years and I am very proud to say that I was your manager.

"Thank you so much once more and always remember: You'll never walk alone."

Our style of changing managers. Mutual consent.

Any parting of someone closely linked to Pool is sad for me, and I'm disappointed to see Rafa go. I think this should apply whether you support him or not, for he gave us hope to a lesser or greater degree.

Bro, I actually am more hopeful. Assuming the sacking is not some vengeful or irrational act, at least there seems to be a plan to improve the club. We could have limped on towards the sale of the club, with nothing changed and no new signings. Now at least, someone wants the club to be better and may have a plan for it. It may or may not be the Yanks, but some other board members who care for the club might be behind it. It'd be interesting to see what unfolds in the coming weeks.

At least it won't be an unexciting off-season (WC shit doesn't count).

Manager to come in?

Players to go and come in?

Nothing changes for me, I'm still a Liverpool supporter.

All the best, Rafa, you won't walk alone either.

Re: Liverpool Fc @ Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

with the departure of rafa,we hv 2 wait 2 see who takes over.

Rafael Benitez leaves Liverpool by mutual consent - Barclays Premier League - ESPN Soccernet

There r a few names tat r often associated 2 replace rafa -

Martin O'Neill:
Aston Villa owner Randy Lerner insisted in May tat Liverpool r "not taking" O'Neill away fr the club but having enjoyed both success & stability at Villa Park - 2 commodities that have been rare indeed at Anfield in recent years - and established a legacy of success at Celtic & Leicester City b4 that, O'Neill has the required stature. He also has experience of working to a tight budget, which may place him in a strong position.

Roy Hodgson:
His stock has never been higher after taking Fulham to the Europa League final - something that Benitez failed to do with Liverpool. Hodgson could even be contending with the Spaniard for the vacant Inter Milan job, and is seen as a future England manager, but if a return to Italy is not on the agenda, then Hodgson's vast experience and widespread popularity will make him a strong candidate to take over at Anfield.

Kenny Dalglish:
A bona fide Liverpool legend, Dalglish returned to the club in July 2009 to take on a role at the club's academy and act as a club ambassador. As manager of the Reds, Dalglish secured the Double in 1986 and secured further league titles in 1988 and 1990 before announcing his shock resignation in February 1991. Though he won the Premier League with Blackburn in 1995, and had further spells with Newcastle and Celtic, Dalglish enjoys an intimate relationship with Liverpool fans. He will be involved in the process of finding Benitez's replacement, but has a chance himself.

Guus Hiddink:
The Dutchman, whose only spell in English football saw him lift the FA Cup with Chelsea in 2009, is an outside prospect given that only recently he was appointed Turkey manager and has already turned down overtures from Inter Milan. Hiddink won the Treble for PSV Eindhoven in 1988 and won six Eredivsie titles in two spells at the club, as well as managing Real Madrid. At international level, he steered South Korea to the semi-finals of the 2002 World Cup and Russia to the final four of Euro 2008.

Mark Hughes:
Another outsider, Hughes will only reduce his popularity among Manchester United fans further if he follows his departure from Manchester City in December by becoming manager of Liverpool. Hughes was used to spending vast sums of money at City before being dismissed for failing to keep the club on the right "trajectory", but under a tight budget at Blackburn he established a reputation as one of the brightest managerial talents in England.

whoever takes over would be hving a good time .... as long as the yankees r still owners.
