Apologies for the slow updating, this was a side track from my main story back then, and yes, as far as Janice goes, the SMS exchanges, WA exchanges are that far back - thus it takes time to write up.

Got a computer script or what you can call it - from a friend who is in IT. Input a time, click start, and it will shut down my computer at the determined time. Pretty nifty tool. I set it for 6.30pm. About 5, I picked up a 'call' and hurriedly walked out of the office to talk in private.

In about 10mins or so after I leave office, my computer will go into screensaver, and it will go blank to power saving, thereafter at 6.30pm it will shutdown. Nobody will notice if I came back or when I left, my tracks will be nicely covered.

I conveniently walked to the car and started the engine. Drove over to Milly's place, pretty fast down CTE, reached about 5.35pm. 2 hours early.

Is it still the culture in Singpore to work late ?

I have left Singapore about 10 years ago to work overseas. Now, I knock off at 5pm sharp and on Friday, it is the company policy to knock off at 3.30pm for a beer together before heading home. After covid19, there are some companies doing 4 days work and that might be the future if that is pass into law.

When I read your story, I am surprise as I thought Gen Z or Gen Y people will hack care what their boss thinks and leave on time as we are not paid to do overtime work.

About your laptop setup that can shut down at certain time, like that can meh? What if there's an urgent email that's sent before you are supposedly off work? Some companies that have different offices may even use certain chat app that's not whatsapp, if seeing you online may buzz you but will be ghosted.
Lastly, when a woman tells you to wait for them for 5min, just take it with a pinch of salt. Just like when the boss asks you to his office for a min chat, it's likely to be at least 10min or more.

Different companies have different policies or practice. I have friends who are in operatons or back office that as long as they finish that's day's task, can leave even its 3pm.
Personally, for companies that pay OT, can be subjected to abuse. Companies that expect the staff to do OT excessively can be toxic. Or bosses expect the staff to be 24x7 to standby for his orders and tasks are slave drivers. This is common in the likes of Taiwan and China as there are too many workers with too few vacancies.

shutdown /s /f /t <xxx> where <xxx> is the time-out period before shutdown in seconds.

For example, if you want the computer to shutdown after 1 hour : shutdown /s /f /t 3600

Unspoken need to, not want to. Working late has always been a culture to prove your worth and value, although I fail to see how. I'm sneaking off early, not sneaking off late, so the need to do such little bits of sneaking

Where you mention, that's quite country specific, not in SG, I know a few companies do that in SG but rare.

I do leave on the dot and heck care what people think. If you think I'm working less than you, so be it, I'm paid for my 8 hours presence, nothing more. Anything more I give is out of my kindness.

And also anything that comes in after 4, I usually treat it as a next day reply kind of email. Don't tell me it came in at 5.59 and it is to be worked on TODAY, sorry, I don't work that way, I automatically place the email to next day's date. Don't email me next day at 8.59am tell me you sent it yesterday and pending my reply. I won't bother at all.

Once you give in, this kind of mentality will never cease and expectations will increase. I've already set the standard and expectations on my end

Took off my shoes and went in. First impression the house was clean and bright, non-HDB standard tiles, windows were tinted, aircon was not on, but they look pretty new and clean. She had the the ceiling fan switched on instead.

There goes my aircon 'treat'. Decided to look around the place.

The sofa was a L shaped type, those that you can lie on to watch TV. Glanced towards the kitchen and I noticed a Catholic altar nearby. She's Catholic, not Christian.

Nearby behind the sofa is a feature wall, with photos. I saw Milly's photos and also ones with her husband. Pretty wedding photos I think. Suit/gowns, casual photos. Caught one or two with her friends in church. This is definitely going to be a purely platonic good friend relationship.

Quite nicely decorated, bright, wooden furniture, slight olden feel.

Walked into the kitchen, clothes were hanging out to dry. Ooo... I saw 2 bras, black and beige hanging there. Tempted, but no, I am not perverted. Hahaha. Yesterday's dress was also hanging out to dry.

Kitchen looks clean, unused, I doubt Milly does much cooking. I see cereal boxes - BORING. Opening her fridge, I saw coke, sprite and some packet drinks, I just helped myself to a drink. I didn't go into the rooms as regardless as it's still rooms and I didn't want to intrude.

Time passed and I got restless. Walked around the house a few more rounds, and I heard the water in the master bedroom switching off. Finally she's done.

Now to wait for her to make up, dress... it's 6.15pm already. Gosh, I have been here for almost 45 minutes. Going to be late for the movie.
