My breakdown of monthly budget in Bangkok, listed low end to high end!

Low - High
Apartment: 15,000 - 20,000
Utilities: 3,000 - 5,000
Gym: already lifetime member
Food: 10,000 - 15,000
Entertaintment: 20,000 - 30,000
Travel: 2,000 - 4,000
Medical: OTC drugs 2,000 - 4,000
Miscellaneous: 6,000 - 8,000

Total: Low End - 55,000Bhat - High End - 81,000Bhat

My budget in US dollars will be most likely from $2,000 - $2,400 per month! It all depends on your taste and living environment. As I said before, "having a permanent longterm girlfriend is lot cheaper than playing around, you just have to pay her monthly salary." Also, I will never live in a studio apartment! First two things I will buy in Bangkok is 52" LCD TV and leather rocker recliner!

Good luck,
monthly expenses of S$2k in bkk kinda high... but that's including S$600 rental yes?
then that would ard S$1.4k per month... that's better but still not as easy on the wallet as I have expected...

condo or small apartment in bkk is baht 1million?... that's affordable
will 2 million baht get something more decent?

The Huay Kwang pharmacy is the one near to the wet market where alot of fruit stalls outside the shop. If in need, you can get your regular supply of V or C there.

Milfmilf,

Yes, you can buy a nice condo with 2 mil baht! But take your time looking and live in an apartment for several months before purchasing a condo. You need to determine the noise level, security, abundance of eating places and general condition of your neighborhood!

Indianmagicoil,

The Olympic Club on the premises o Pathumwan Princess Hotel, next to MBK. They have decent size Bangkok's only salt chorinated pool! The gym also have other amenities such as large workout area, 2 indoor squash courts, tennis court, and lots of attractive spoiled Thai Phuyings! The website address is Bangkok fitness and Gyms - The Olympic Club

Salt water chlorinated pool is much better for your eyes due to less eye infection!

Bluedragon 194,

Thanks for your message and participation. During my next trip, I might check out Tulip Apartment, the price is very reasonable but the distance to MRT is too far.

Hello,

I've workout at California Fitness and California WOW in Bangkok off and on since 2000 and I like the equipments and the weights but they played the music too loud! Also, they do have lots of attractive girls working out but be careful of the gays, they constantly stare at you! Once I heard 2 gays talking to each other, one said to other, "did you fart, I smell sperm!"

Towel servie used to be free but now they charge 50B for daily usage or 3,000B for annual service.

i've seen tulip apt. personal opinion, i find is abit far cos is along the small lane along soi 3, hidden almost the end of the soi. the management got a few apts along that soi. you'll have a hard time if you're going out when it rain cos there's no motorcyc and taxi in that soi. (i was there on a raining day)

good part of it is that the rates are really affordable. the 35sqm studio only going at 6k but is kinda run down.

my 2 cents...

Hello,

Another advice:

In Thailand, there are only 2 things we should rent, housing and working girls! Otherwise, you're going to suffer financially! I've heard too many horror stories regarding renting mopeds, motorcycles, cars, jetskies and sometimes taxis! Buy if you have the money forget about renting, it will bring headache! You should view excellent youtube videos about British soldier returning rented jetskies in Phuket.

Re: Retirement in Bangkok!

Why retire in Bangkok ????

- Over Crowded n Noisy
- Bad Traffic Jam all day
- Very bad air polution
- Getting More expensive

For me, I ll consider another less congested n relax city....

Anyway, it's retirement mah...supposed to be a relax, sit back n watch the "birds" n the "world" goes by......

Chiangmai, Korak, Hua Hin etc etc... will be a better alternative for a "retirement" lifestyle......

- Relax - fresher air
- Nice natural surrounding - cheap golfs, fishing ground, many greens, cycle around wif comfort etc...
- more reasonable cost of living

We dont need the lime light n convenient of big shopping complexes, bath houses, go go bars, discos, pubs etc.......

We need to focus on our objectives n priorities correctly....Bangkok may be our first place of visit in LOS but certainly that NOT the ideal city for a real retirement.....

Unless the retirement objectives in to jump into a more exciting life than Hawaii ?????

Talking Re: Retirement in Bangkok!

Sinoview,

Thanks for your informative/alternative opinion on retirement in Bangkok! For as I'm concerned, I don't mind the traffic because I won't be driving in Bangkok, I'll be using MRT, BTS, Taxis and walking. I like the crowd because I like to watch people, especially attractive Thai phuyings. Even though I'm retired, I won't have too much time to relax due to working out in the gym, spending time learning Thai language, daily Thai massage and Spa relaxation and extracurricular activities! Living in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Korat or Hua Hin is too slow for me. Maybe when I reach 65 years old, I wouldn't mind retiring in the north and slow down. Also, I don't like to participate in killing animals such as fishing or hunting. I don't mind eating meat and fish, as long as I don't do the killing. I agree with you, Bangkok is not an ideal place to retire but I don't mind. I guess, it all depends on your lifestyle. Also, Honolulu is a great place to live but cost of living is ridiculously expensive! Bangkok is still cheap and reasonable compared to other US cities.

Thanks for sharing your opinion.
