This may be be the best thread to post this report but I think trhere are many brothers who travel to various parts of China visited this thread.
There's a report recently published in the Hong Kong paper "The Standard". "RED-LIGHT" GANG SMASHED Shenzhen police have smashed a gang of "Red-light district" robbers which had been targeting Hong Kong men in the city's Nanshan district. The plan was simple - attractive young women posed as prostitutes and would seduce Hong Kong men looking for company and escort them to a rental house where the victims would be beaten and robbed of their cash and credit cards. The operation, which the Shenzhen public security department had been planning for more than a month, began last month when officers divided into six teams and arrested syndicate members after watching five men being taken to the houses by women. Eight women and three "watchers" were arrested. At the same time, another team broke into a another house and arrested four more suspects who were busy tying up five victims. "This is the first time we have acted in such a swift and sudden way," an officer identified only as Wong said. "We must not get the wrong people and we have to avoid scaring citizens." The operation followed a series of complaints, including one from a Hong Kong man who was himself captured and robbed. According to the latest edition of Eastweek magazine, the man told police he was seduced by a beautiful young woman in the Nanshan district, but his date turned out to be a costly nightmare in which he was beaten, robbed, tied up and forced to spend a night with other victims who had fallen into the same trap. A week after he was rescued, the man saw the same girl talking to other men on the streets, so he called police, who then began plotting an operation. "The hardest thing in fighting seduction-robbery is evidence gathering," Shenzhen police senior officer Hu Zhijun said. "Most victims won't report to police because they don't want to lose face. Many suspects have been released due to insufficient evidence. This time, we had spent over a month just to collect evidence. "With plenty of evidence and knowing how the suspects commit the crime, even without the suspects' statement, we can still try the case in court," Hu said. Prior to the raid, police officers had been monitoring the suspects 24 hours a day and had targeted about a dozen belonging to this particular syndicate. According to Shenzhen police, the group was highly organised and would never commit the crime twice at the same location. Further investigations revealed the syndicate was organised under a leader, surnamed Cheung, who recruited a group of attractive young women to look for victims in the district. As the women searched for victims, several "watchers" would oversee the operation while body-builders were used to help restrain the victims. According to Shenzhen public security, the group would rent a place near where they planned to look for victims and after a couple of days, the gang would go to work. They would seduce victims by offering a cut-rate price for sex with one of the women. The watchers would then notify the guards after the victims agreed to go to the rented house. Once the victims were inside the house, they would be restrained and robbed of all their valuables. In just one night, the group could rob more than 10 victims leaving the rented accommodation on the second day when the landlord would come looking for his unpaid rent and would discover the victims. 15 September 2003 Got to be careful out there...........

I saw in our news report couple of days ago. I just return from Shanghai and was there for more than a week. I stay very near to Nan Jing Lu. I spent few nights strolling alone along NanJing Lu doing nothing practically , just waiting to catch a plane back to Singapore. While in NanJing Lu (Bu-xing-jie) I was approached numerous time by Gals (some pretty, some cute, some average) trying to strike a conversation with me. They would just say "hi" to me and pretend to ask some questions. Some questions ask include: 1) "what is the time now"? 2) How to get to "Fu-Jian Lu etc? 3) Are u a local?? 4) Are u alone? 5) Sorry, thought u are my friend!! They merely wanted to kick-start the dialougue I ask them not to waste their time on me as I am not keen on any company and wanted to be alone. I am not sure what service they offer. Perhaps they might qoute some cheap KTV and/or accompany services (my guess). Rtaes wise, sorry, I didn't bother to ask. I must say, they are sharp on targetting Guys foreigner. Or could be the dressing that give us away. Well in case , any brothers heading to SH or already in SH. DO lookout for such activities and think twice before agreeing to any services. Or u might have use any such service before, please share what u know. Have fun.
