i know of expats, who live in USD10k a mth villa right smack on Huai Hai Rd, car n driver provided by company, children education in int'l sch paid by company also...

then, another fren, live in a simple apartment (own), drives an Audi A6 (own), runs 4 companies... works like shit...

to some extends, both are equally successful, in their own capacity and lifestyle.

sigh.....I havent attain any of the above yet!

I was certified fit to travel by the doctor later and there again, I made this trip to China, and am now in Dalian. It is all a very subjective issue in terms of having a local SHA GF or other country origin bro. You choose to be with one be it of any country origin, if you think she's the right one then go with your heart then. Let the heart speaks & lead you bro......

It is the same in terms of one's career path & eventual success. As Bro Sexatronic & you said herein, one's success is very much subject to one's chosen path and thus how he measures upon his own bench mark in his heart rather than against others around him.
I've not consider myself successful as yet at all after being here on a foreign land for coming 8 years as I'm still an employee working & making a livelihood for a 3 meals, a roof over my head for shelter & to feed & support the family back home in Singland. Just a normal expat with a normal local expat package seeking to make ends meet.
What one can achieve in his career & objectives are to be a scale against his own and should not be against others.

I strongly believed that you will be successful in your ways in time to come, having a good career be it in Singland or here in Shanghai. Have faith in yourself dear bro!
