8 hurt by Kolok bombing

8 people were injured in the car-bomb explosion at a computer company in Narathiwat’s Sungai Kolok on Friday morning, said Pol Lt Sakkapong Kerdpol, dusty officer at Sungai Kolok police station.

After more than three hours, firefighters managed to keep the flames at the company’s building and nearby commercial buildings, caused by the explosion, under control, he said.

Pol Lt Sakkapong said the owner of the computer company and other three family members, got caught on the roof deck of the company’s building, were safely brought down to the ground.

The injured victims are;

1) Charoenchai Udomlersatkul, 74, the computer company’s owner
2) Thaweesak Udomlertsakul, 45, Mr Charoenchai’s son
3) Sunee Udomlertsakul, 35, Mr Charoenchai’s daughter
4) Supassorn Tiyarattanachai, Mr Charoenchai’s daughter-in-law
5) Pichai Thongchompunuch, 53
6) Sama-air Waema, 62
7) Ameera Jehsoh, 31, and
8) Rusman Ma-useng, 41

They were all taken to Sungai Kolok hospital.

Police inspected the scene and found pieces of a pickup truck, with a fake licence plate SY6602 Bangkok, in which a 50kg home-made bomb, detonated by communication radio, was hidden inside.

Investigation results found that suspected militants parked the pickup truck in front of the computer company about 6am. When a police patrol car was passing the spot, the bomb was detonated and it went off.

The police travelling in the patrol car were not hurt, but the family members of the computer company’s owner and passing by villagers returning from nearby fresh market were injured in the explosion.

Chief of Sungai Kolok police station ordered police to monitor footages of close-circuit TV cameras installed in the area to hunt for the bomb attackers.

A separatist movement group in the far South had earlier distributed leaflets stating that it would carry out major attacks against state authorities ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan.

I don't think it is the work of the Muslims this time. Today is the start of Ramadan and usually they withhold all sinful acts during this period. Even in Jerusalem they will have a truce during Ramadan.

Likely case of business rivalry or a hidden hand out to sow discord.

Went to danok purposely for Da Endorphine show. Da Endorphine show was great, enjoy her songs very much. While I was waiting for the show to start, saw a few syt. Maybe a good time to venture there again.
