I will be taking the overland route (legal

) from phnom penh to chau doc when i arrive in phnom penh on the 20th. Will share my experience with other brothers when i come back over on the 25th.

As promised the trip phnom penh to chau doc.
After a 2 hour silkair plane ride from singapore, i transfered to a waiting taxi ride from phnom airport through kandal and then takeo before reaching the international border of cambodia and vietnam.
On the cambodia side, it was called phnom den and on the vietnamese side, it was called tien bien.
I had to walk

with all my luggage about 100 meters to the cambodia checkpoint (actually a few wooden shacks) and the immigration went through my passport, asked about visas (i think he wanted some bribes) for about 15 minutes before reluctantly giving me the exit stamp.
Then i had to pull my luggage, for about 100 meters to the vietnamese checkpoint, also a few wooden shacks (but in better condition) to the vietnamese checkpoint (now sweating profusely) to fill up the required immigration forms. Then a sweet vietnamese lady told me that i had to go for a quarantine temperature check. I was thinking, i was hot as hell and if my temperature was high, i will be in deep shit.
Thankfully, my temperature was in order. I then had to walk (again

) with my luggage for another 100 meters before i could get into my taxi for a 20min ride to chau doc.
I will take a ferry ride back to phnom penh on the 25th. I will then share the experience with the brothers when I get back to phnom penh.

How cum you never take those motorcycles taxi there??? Got many many there you know, but not very cheap as they asked for minimum USD1 for such a short distance

First time doing this trip may be blur and also afraid to get ripped off.

I got a bad deal on the boat trip back from chau doc to phnom penh.
It started off well. I was put on a tricycle from the hotel to the pier. From the pier, I was transfered by boat to the floating hotel cum waiting area. There was a fish farm tour before the trip but I opted out. So I went to the restaurant up stairs for a cafe nong and a banh mi. Expensive

At 0800 hrs, I was put on a speed launch and taken near the fish farm to pick up the rest of the passengers. The actual trip started at 0830 hrs.
AT about 1000 hrs we reached the vietnamese checkpoint and the boat operator took our passports to be processed. There was a waiting area where drinks and food could be bought and we had a 45 mins break.
Then the first big surprise. The sleek white speed launch became old wooden boat. This boat took a 15 min ride to the cambodian immigration where we had to do the immigration procedures ourselves.

Thereafter, it was an uneventful ride trip back to cambodia UNTIL, the second big surprise. We were dumped unceremoniously about 1 hour's ride to phnom penh. We were squeezed into a van and driven to phnom penh.

I reached phnom penh at about 1400 hrs.
I made some enquiries in phnom penh and the knowing smiles told me had been had. I was supposed to disembark at sisowarth quay.
I hope this incident will prevent brothers from being had like me. Please make proper enquiries before boarding the boat at chau doc.
I will be taking a ferry from sisowarth quay in phnom penh the next time I go to chau doc in about a month's time. I will then post my experience whn I reach chau doc.
