That's why I am slowly building up my retirement portfolio at the age of 25. (It's never too young to start as I don't wanna become my children's burden next time.)

Currently i have some blue chips and insurance in place. Can you guys give some opinion?
- STI ETF which i will put in at certain interval (DCA)
- Hospitalization plan to cover my hospital bill if anything happens.
- Term Plan covering 500k until 65 years old.
- Whole Life covering 200k, which i will surrender for the money when i retire
- 25 Yrs savings plan which i get payout when I'm 50 years old.

Will definitely review my portfolio again if i have kids. Need to make some changes and allocation money for their planning as well.

Personally, If i think one who wants to depend solely on cpf/gov, bang wall and die faster i think. (they don't owe you a living anyway)

Have car, Have Loans ($20k worth)

Living from pay cheque to pay cheque clearing off loans, credit card bills (ex-gf left me with a big debt which the interests went spiralling out of control). Most of my pay goes to car, loans and credit card bills.

Am looking much better now compared to exactly 1 year ago. Now only left with 2 cards (1 for petrol, 1 for spending). Cleared and cancelled off 4 cards already around $35k.

Went through depression trying to sort my life and finances out. Boss gave me a decrement and demotion because of my depression period to makes matters worse. I guess my partner now has been so positive and aided me in staying clear and calm despite the bills. Have to take up 2 loans to clear the card debts. Now I'm only left with 1 loan and 2 cards to deal with.

I am in credit loans after parents in and out of hospital. During their young times, never thought of buying insurance and wanted to buy when I am ready but too bad got medical issue cannot buy insurance.

Now I am -70k.

Anyone can win me?

You can ask for monthly payments from the hospital bills. Dont use your credit card. It'll kill you.

I was in a lot of debts when I was in my 30s. Business failed, owed creditors few hundred k. Luckily they gave me some leeway and did not declared me as bankrupt.

All you need to work hard, take multiple jobs, save as much as you can to pay off the debts, suffer for few years, all you can start anew.

I was working 2-3 jobs daily, sometimes over 20 hours, including weekend. I was literally on plain bread for 3 years for my breakfast and lunch. For dinner, it's just plain rice and eggs, sometimes just vegetables only.

You can definitely do it. It's never too late.

It's always the case bro, that's why i always encourage my friends around me to be covered when they're young and they always ask me "why now?".

I'll tell them, insurance is not something like you suka suka anytime can buy wan, you wan buy also must make sure underwriter accept your proposal. Outside look chiochio inside rotten how.

I know a friend who was in debt (owe more than 100K from playing shares). Yet he was not prepare to give up his lifestyle (still want to keep his car). That was 8 years ago. I believe he's now still in debt.

If there is no gambling, prostitution, drinking in my life, perhaps now i have at least S$60k savings in bank. I am 27 now, 5 years working, degree holder.

gambling - 30k
pros - 15k
drink - 5k
everything i left now is 10k.

But at least now i know how to plan better financially.

Save before spend.
After save the portion you set, you can spend the remaining on any bloody thing you like.

Hopefully the figure will go up again. now i force myself to save at least 3k/month. Not easy to control the urge of those bad habits thou..

Its never too late to start thinking with the right head and change the course of your life. 27 years old is still very young plus you have a great career. Better start now and lessen your vices as life is getting costlier and tougher. Its still never too late to save up and enjoy more in your 50 where you have peace of mind knowing you have excess for it.
