but if keane comes as well, then i suspect benitez will play the spanish formation of 4-1-3-2 with mascherano as the sole holding midfield and keane playing the support striker's role.
well, seems like rafa is moving towards keane more now, but not sure wats his budget like.......interestingly the club is operating with a transfer profit so far this season......

only know barry is damn cool when taking penalty, if not wrong, he scored quite afew for villa last season, and one of them was at the 4-4 draw against chelsea, last few minutes of the game, facing cech,

certainly would like to see some more movement, especially with players who can give us more option in attack....

bruther andysaio14,

barry should be a great player to have, but Martin and Villa is holding us to a ransom. so maybe we should just wait and when the season starts and he is not playing or play not good, then the prices may drop and it will be cheaper.
keane is also a good player,he can at least cover our striking sections as we do not have many recognise strikers in the squad.

Seriously i think we need Keane more than Barry cos Crouch went to Portsmouth and he can be the replacement for him. Although we have Voronin and Kuyt but i think both of them are not good enuff to partner Torres. But then, 18 mil for Keane is quite ex. I personally think he worth abt 12-15mil.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

yup agree...
at the end of day MON will only get the amount what liverpool wants to pay (less than 18m and i think thats wat rafa intended to do...)
i dont think arsenal wants barry as much as rafa wants him...
all in doubt now if alonso is actually better than barry in which i think he is...

ya...we need a striker like keane...
benitez likes a player that always can score regularly against liverpool...
like crouch..he was a menace when
our defence go up against him...
thats why rafa bought him last time

Alonso used to be a very good player before his broken ankle...... and while he may have recovered physically, I think the injury still affects him psychologically. Wonder if anyone of you noticed it when he resumed playing after the injury, he dun go in 100% for his tackles now..... and watch his face closely when executing the tackle..... zoom in if you can..... his face cringes and the look in his eyes show FEAR.... so I think he has not recovered mentally.

My 2 cts point of view is that he will never regain the peak of his past performances.... is better to let him go now when his market value is still there.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

I felt something slapped my face.

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has warned Liverpool and Spurs that England winger Stewart Downing is not for sale.

Southgate admitted he has had an inquiry for midfielder Lee Cattermole, but said interest in Downing has so far not led to a bid from Boro's Premier League rivals.
And if he does receive any offers before the end of August, the Boro boss will turn them down.

Yah man, thats what I belive too..... and in the midst of midfield better, he is always receiving the goodies.

So an Englishmen who fear no physical abuse in the form of Barry shall arrive?

Bunnytease wanted someone who functions like momo, and he sees one in Mascherano. But i dun think theres anyone who can be like Alonso. Gerrard? ;p

my own humble opinion, We need downing =x
keane? Not that bad.... but not neccessary....
Villa? Yeah man, Mr outofnowhereherecomesagoal, we need him.

One thing is for sure, we r looking for positive changes.
Cheers!

Last rumour for the day bros,

LIVERPOOL will look to tie up a deal for Robbie Keane in the next 48 hours after Tottenham gave up the struggle to keep their star player at White Hart Lane.

The chances of Rafa Benitez getting his man were boosted significantly last night when Spurs boss Juande Ramos admitted for the first time he is likely to have to cash in on some of his big names in an effort to balance the books.

sign off.
Alp.

Re: Liverpool Fc Anfield - Reds Supporters Gatherings

Bros, this question of buying Keane or Downing, note that the day of the winger is over. As in someone who sticks to the byline and races down the flank and crosses. The top teams don't play classic wingers anymore.

Ronaldo is not a winger and has been a disaster at that role. Neither is Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Joe Cole, Thierry Henry, our own Stevie who has played on the right.

The system the top teams play is more fluid, with full backs also providing width. That's why they usually don't play 4-4-2 but a lone recognised striker with any number of supporting wide attackers and 1 or 2 holding midfielders.

Bottom line is I will be very happy with Keane because of his flexibility: he can play as second supporting striker in a 4-4-2 or a wide attacker in a 4-2-3-1.

Downing will not give us that option - Bro AXL - of course I am biased a little cos I don't rate Downing highly, but this is about tactics and not individuals.

Why, even Barry, if he signs for us, may have some games on the left. And the list of players Rafa has used on the flanks is longer than West Ham's injury list!!

keane will contribute very nicely...

we fans have to be realistic and understand that the americans r not gonna come up with my transfer money this season. first and foremost, they cant loan anymore $$$ and they would be unlikely to come up with their own.

yes, attacking midfielders now...

he can shoot with both feet, weigh in with his fair share of goals and assists in a mediocre team... i still feel he could be value for money

not surprising... barry was one of the premier leftbacks in the country before his conversion. can he still sprint down the line? actually, barry to me, represents a new free-kick threat.

cheers all

Looks like MON played his cards wrong liao Here's the latest from Liverpool Times daily :-

Who? - Gareth Barry
Where is he? - Aston Villa
Who is he linked with? - Liverpool

Aston Villa have confirmed that they have received another offer from Liverpool for England midfielder Gareth Barry. The Reds are reported to have bid around 12 million for the 27-year-old Villa captain, significantly lower than their earlier offers despite Barry's current employers holding out for a much higher fee. A Villa spokesman told the club's official website: "An offer was received but our position on the issue remains unchanged and Liverpool have been informed."

Rick Parry has released a statement: "The latest offer is a realistic valuation on a player we would like to have and we will not pay more than this valuation. We would rather spend the excess on our other transfer target."

Hahaha.... MON will be stuck with an unhappy player who does not want to play for Aston Villa.

Robbie Keane is more likely to be the next Liverpool player signed.
