What's the amount? Maybe it is based on the insurance payout of loss of a limb which last time I checked can be quite small.

IMO, you can't blame him for that. They also have a budget and having a large sum of compensation might open them for even larger sums of compensation in future. This is compensation that the government is willing to give. If they want more, the parents would have to seek legal redress. IIANM, they already filed a lawsuit.

I think most governments as well as Malaysia government departments/ministries would do the same thing. They ain't going to be writing big cheques for compensation. Sorry, no can do. You want more, please sue.

IF i'm not mistaken, the compensation amount is at the range of 5 figure - bloody joke if you ask me. Nobody is blaming him but there is a better way to handle this situation & in most people opinion, he fared badly with his insensitive remarks & the way he handled this issue.

I check already the going rate for insurance claims (eg car accident or industrial accident claims) for losing one arm like that is more or less the amount that the government quoted as compensation. I think his hands are tied at that.
