Well... it all depends on the woman and the values that they hold... my OC earns her own money and more then i do actually.... she won't ask anything from me as she believes in spending her own money.... she just looks forward to me being home everyday with her....

I think local women can spend their own money. But their motto is always

What's mine is mine, what is yours is mine. The OC/CO dun spend your money and you are lucky, most people are not. But how many of us get to spend our OC/CO money? Or they spend on us.

Just my opinion as a newbie. Not to offend anyone.

What u say is pretty true. Singaporeans are brought up with patriarchal mindsets and both men and women tend to feel that it is the right of women to have access to their partner's income. I have seen many bros feeling obligated to give their partners part of their income because of this upbringing although their partners are also earning a reasonable income. The underlying misconstrued theory is that men should provide for women and therefore the men's income is meant for both parties. What the ladies earn is like additional pocket money for the ladies to pamper herself. However, what people tend to overlook is that in a patriarchal society, women has little rights except to their partners' income and they r expected to be subjugated to men, akin to what u see in current Middle Eastern families. The women's charter basically throw that out of the window and make women's rights equivalent to men. I agree with equal rights for both sexes but it should also mean equal responsibility too! Currently, I just feel that most sg women r not putting in their fair share of responsibility.

Not doing NS and reservist is also bad enuff but most local women's ideal husband ( higher income but less MCP) just smacks of greediness and aloofness to me.

The women charter does have its part to play to protect uneducated women, i.e. those in their 50s and above. But the courts should put a lid on the unnecessary application of this law by overzealous ladies.

The most pressing issue is to reform the enlistment act to allow the local males a fair playing field in the working world. With the influx of foreigners in our local shores, we should really explore ways to professionalise our military force instead of relying on cheap conscripts which has plenty of hidden social and economic costs. This system is clearly not workable in the modern world.

In coming years this group of sg & msia women are likely marry foreigners (ang mohs) then divorced with all this ang moh cheated their $$ & fled back their own country. And leaving the fact that no smart sg men want to feed such worthless ladies. Not to say pity them.

Some will say that NS is a necessary part of the male population here and others will say tis a waste of time.... whatever it is we will have to go through it unless you are short of one leg or something.... even then they might put you into the service part of NS!!

Woman if you notice are climbing up the salary ladder faster now and some are earning much more then their male counterparts.... concept is when you earn more you can contribute more but don't forget.... the more you earn the more you spend as well.... maybe its not true for some.....

I know that many woman have been taught: What is mine is mine and what is your is mine as well..... The guys have to take care of most of the household expenses and bills and groceries and such.... while the woman earns more..... sigh....

The economic cost for the local males is too much to make NS a viable long term defence strategy. But I doubt the govt has the best interests of their citizens in mind nowadays. Thats why I advise my frens to leave their daughters to enjoy the perks doled out by the govt but they have to send their sons elsewhere to protect his future career.
