there is no atm on the island.. please bring enough cash. there is bus from the harbour to tourist area. 10rmb per head. hop on the bus from the harbour and tell the driver which hotel.they will bring u there.

Yes, I was thinking about it. I would avoid going around Oct 1 thur Oct 3 because it's a national holiday. Don't mind going before or after these dates. PM if you are interested. Will be in Zhuhai Monday Sept 25 for a few days. Meeting with JJ and mybe bro sinkawhorean in Zhuhai. Any reviews about JJ.

thought of going some time between 12-15 Oct.
But the tiger air ticket very X... $230++ use to spend only $110.
Wonder how's the weather over there during this time? will the sea be rocky?
being to Zhu Hai last year twice in May and Jul... very hot!

I've been a reader at this forum for some years now... and thanks to many bros here, the information you've provided have helped me around territories that were foreign to me. This thread has surprisingly been inactive for some time now. Since i was nearby, I decided to discover the place myself. So it is..

Xia Chuan Dao, a small island off south-west of GuangDong. This place is popular with Taiwanese, HK and few Malaysians. Very rare to see Singaporeans here. The place is truly relaxing if you're looking for a slow-paced or time-out space to chill. Since i went there in late November, the island was relatively quiet. Then again, there are still holiday makers around and business go on as usual. Time is aplenty for everyone there, so i spent much time gathering infos chit chatting with the locals.

The main vicinity of the island where you'll hang out stretches only about 500m by 500m, facing the beach. Within this area are the rows of hotels, F&B outlets, internet bars, shops & many bbs. There is only 1 atm here but it only can transact through Unionpay ie. Most, if not all, China ATM card would be able to use the ATM here. For foreign cards without Unionpay, you may NOT be able to use it so you will have to bring hard cash along. I've heard that new banking branches are being developed on the island but not sure when they would be ready.

Main attraction of this place:
1) Clean beaches, soft sand, beautiful scenery in the day, very romantic in the night.
2) All bbs (about 50-60 of them) are concentrated along two streets. Each houses anywhere from 5 to 250 depending on seasons. The gals are generally young and new in the trade. Majority of them come from Hunan.
3) The seafood here are fresh and cheap. Correction - Very cheap!
4) Several bars, ktvs, clubs where you can go for drinks and enjoy with your group of friends. I've only been to one so can't comment much on this section but i'd believe there are generally no hostess as patrons bring their own bbs gals.
5) Buggy rental costs about Cny 280 for 24 hours. Cost include petrol. You can ask them to bring you around the island where they will also explain the permitted boundaries where you can bring the buggy. Basically you can ride the buggy on any terrain except water ie. You can ride the buggy on the sands. If you rent it for a day, make sure you confirm with them you are not liable if it's stolen while parking it overnight outside your hotel. They will accept it since no one can bring it out of the island. You can also rent the buggy for one or two hours (not sure about the cost).

旺季Peak season: Summer (hotel rates: around 400-500 on average)
Many visitors including local tourists. Price for almost everything is much more expensive. Supply of gals, can you imagine, can go into thousands concentrated in a small place (according to the locals).

淡季Lull season: Winter (hotel rates: around 70-100 on average)
Mostly foreigner (TW, HK, Msia) visit the place for just one objective.
Food & lodging are super-cheap! Supply are gals are less.

Best time to visit: If cost is no issue, and you're okay with a crowded island, Summer would be the time for you. Otherwise try the beginning of Spring, when weather is excellent (not too hot), before it gets too crowded and hotel rates are still relatively cheap.

Transport:
- Direct bus from: 珠海拱北信禾车站 Zhuhai Gongbei Xinghe station TO 山嘴码头 Shangzui matou (2hrs);
- Ferry to 下川岛 Xiachuandao (half hr, latest boat leaves at 1730hr);
- Bus to hotel (half hour).
