Don't worry about venting your frustrations... it is what this thread is for... ![]() On the Chinese dubbing issue... just to let bros know... The current trend is to get HDDVD (High Density DVD) as it is more cost effective. One disc can accommodate a few full length movies.. recently I bought a 3-disc set (Lord of the Rings, Matrix, Internal Affairs... each full series per disc! Amazing) and I glad that they're all dubbed in English... because for those who have bought this type of disc before, they will know that one cannot change subtitle or language.. so if you get a version dubbed in the wrong language.... TOO BAD! hahahaha.... So to bros, buying HDDVD, please check in advance... Just my little contribution to the thread... Cheerio~! Shanghaitan ![]() |

Re: Shanghai "In Conversation" Views, News & Reviews
Brothers who are in need of a bad fix of good, and I mean good, chicken (or any other meat) curry, look no further.
I bought a few packets of curry premix from a small restaurant on the ground floor of Simei shopping ctr, next to the Simei MRT. The brand is Remparatus. Just add meat, it's that easy. Add a little milk when cooked to thicken the curry. Or you can buy from their Defu Lane factory: 23 Defu Lane 10, 1-236 Defu Industrial Estate Tel : 62828680 They take orders from their website as well and I think they deliver if orders is over $50. http://asiaspices.com The curry is spicy and taste and smell of real curry, not the other usual stuff you find in the supermarket. My opinion, this is way better than Crossroads and I'm fussy about my curry. Incidentally they have lots of other stuff as well. I love their buah keluak mix, it's really something a nonya dare not to critise too much. Belachan sambal, the lot. I don't work for them, just a satisfied customer. |

Bro Shanghaitan, Thanks for understanding and the encouragement. The HDDVD are you referring to those "压缩" format like they have a whole drama series of 40 episodes squeeze into 3 discs or a few movies squeeze into 1 disc etc.... Yah I agree its value for money, but the shopowner told me before those discs used are of bad quality and may get easily scratch or spoil after watching once or a couple of times. Actually its ok as some movies you only watch it once. Anyway I mostly buy my dvds on pudong side although I stay on the puxi side. Opposite the Yaohan "八百半" there as a stretch of shops of about 6-8 dvd stores. I normally get my dvds there as one of the auntie there already recognize me and i'm always able to get a good bargain from her. And she won't recommend any bad quality dvds to me like those with human heads for the latest movies. Normally I would go in and pick all the dvds I wanted then pass to her and she would either exchange or pick out those that are of bad quality. I can call her to help me reserve DVDs. Besides all this services, I find her dvds selling quite cheap too for 6rmb sometimes 5.50rmb to me which I can't find in puxi side which are selling at 7-8rmb and also able to test the disc before buying. But after being a regular for sometime I trusted her so seldom test now and so far I do not have any complains. ![]() cheers nongho |

Hi Bro Nongho,
I'm not too sure about the quality of the disc and it's lifespan though you're right to say that most of the disc we'll only watch once or twice. So it does not really matter if the disc quality is poor. For classics that I really really want to keep, I'll get the originals.. hahahaha... but even originals get worn out eventually... just a matter of time.. I agree with you that DVDs are more expensive in Puxi to a certain extent. Just like you mentioned, you're a regular at the DVD shop that you frequent and that counts a lot. I'm able to get DVDs at your price over in Puxi as I visit him regularly.. although he's a street seller, I can go to him home to check out the quality if my time permits, otherwise, I can watch and return if I'm not satisfied with it. ![]() Anyway, enjoyed reading all your postings... keep them coming! I do not have to worry about the quality, price and lifespan, as I downloaded them from the website, all free. Previously, this site has some rated movies, since the crack down, boh liao! So basically, I just leave my pc on in the morning and can watch when I get home. When I get back home, I will give you the website address. Normally user can only download 3 movies at a time, unless you are VIP. cheers!

Hahahaha.... Lobangs aplenty in this thread....
Bro Shengge's Rmb 0 downloads versus Bro Kelvin's Rmb 5 and possibly lower 七浦路.... step right up! step right up! There's something for each and every one! Step right up!! du du dudu du du du dududu dududu..... Actually.... to each his own when it comes to this matter... unless one has a television linked to the comp, one will have to make do with watching the downloaded movies on a computer monitor... a not-too-expensive DVD Player/TV combo will probably be a better choice in this case.. however, for more mobile bros who likes watching movies on the go, it will be a better idea to download them and watch at their convenience... not to mention it will also extend the lifespan of the oft breakdown laptop DVD player.... So... perhaps a mixture of purchase and downloads would be a better way to go... download for outstation assignments... purchase of home-base entertainment.. right? It's all about balance.... hahahaha Happy "shopping" guys and gals (if any... how I wish I can meet like-minded women in this forum... )! Cheerio~! Shanghaitan ![]() |

Well said!!...it does pays to be a regular. Regular has it privileges. Not sure whether the HC allows the girl to do it twice. But I reckon its up to the girl. She's providing a service and as long as you are happy and satisfy with it, I'm sure you will keep asking for her service. And that way she earns and also be able to remain in the HC. As I understand from my girl if up to 2 months you do not have any customers asking for your service, you will be ask to pack your bags and go home. There is like a point system in the HC, if you keep getting ask for by customers, your points will add up and you have additonal bonus at the end of the year. If you do not have repeat customers, they will say bye bye to you. So I reckon the girls are also ensuring they have repeat customers in order to earn a living. Bro shengge, Thanx for the website. But it will take sometime for the whole movie to download rite?....anyway I'm a poor chap, no PC or laptop at home...so only way is to buy DVDs lor..... cheers nongho |

Bro Shengge,
I'm not that mean... won't deduct anyone's points as there is no such thing as off-topics... anything goes... as long as bros from other threads don't find it a "waste" that these juicier postings do not appear in the correct threads... Whatever the case, glad to see that this thread is growing steadily with more and more lobang-type inputs... Keep up the good work bros! Cheerio~! Shanghaitan ![]() |

Dear Bro Shanghaitan, It is heartening to see your thread grow with good contents, which are helpful to brothers in Shanghai. I benefit a lot from the information presented in your thread. However, I find myself redundunt in this wonderful thread as I do not have anything useful to contribute. Hence, I benefit, but could not contribute to your thread. I look forward to meet you in person. PTR
