Just came back from a rather bad experience from a Hangzhou KTV, so despite that maybe I’ll be called a “Robert” by other bros, I still think that it’s meaningful to share this as a warning with other bros.

Been reading a lot of previous posting about been careful when going into unfamiliar ktv, so this trip I venture into a so call budget or economy ktv next to Xi Hu area call 学生会馆. Try to be really careful, I ask about almost all the cost and “消费”

Quote to me was:
Room for 200 RMB,
Gal each 100RMB plus Tip (depending on yourself)
Beer 30 RMB per bottle
Tips for anybody else (Waiter/mummy/toilet attendant) – (depending on yourself)

Sound reasonable with the quote and also alot of local china ppl, we didn’t expect it to be cheap but maybe a damage of “1K RMB” each for a group of 3.

When in, gals came, I must say Hangzhou gals are rather pretty. Then sing song, hug hug …. No Action. 2 hours fly by and I start to notice my empty beer bottle is starting to pile up when all three bros are not drinker, got the first sign of signal of warning. Then waiter start serving fruit juice saying is ladies order one around after round, 2nd sign of problem. I start signaling my other bro that we need to leave. Call for bill and time to pay for lesson fee.

Everyone start asking for tip, saying that tips has to be paid before the bills come. Well here goes the tipping.

Gals: 100RMB Table fee plus 200tip each(they request for 300RMB)
(The gals are pretty and Hangzhou near to shanghai, so I cannot complain much)
Mummy: 300RMB (I only see her twice for 5 min) !!!
Waiter: ask me for 100RMB, I offer 50RMB (I requested for his manager to come tell me it’s a standard for 100RMB, he say either 100 or don give, been s’porean I just I have to go for the “don give” option)

That ‘s the first round, paid up …
Then comes the bomb :

56 Bottle of beer @ 30 RMB each
18 juice @ 268 RMB each !!!! (This was a surprise)
Lots of other crap !!!
Came up to 7K plus RMB for all accountable item on my table ….

If you think that bad, there comes a “service charge” 48%, Copy right fee (can’t remember how much)

Total up to 13978 RMB ….

Well to keep to story short, we neg it down to 3500 RMB but I think it’s a meaningful lesson fee paid that no matter how careful we were, the best option is still not to walk into a unfamiliar KTV.

Total cost: $1300(drinks and mummy) plus 300 RMB as tips

Well 1600RMB tonight for my first “Robert” lesson …. And this further show the value of Sammyboy forum ….

Seems that there is a lack of FR for this thread so I will contribute my day of recce in HZ.

1) Westlake Golden Plaza Hotel - Sauna closed

2) Capital Star Hotel - Sauna open, but line was poor, so skipped

3) WTC Hotel - Sauna open, but only 保健按摩, grrr...

4) Milan Intercontinental - as recommended by one bro, sauna open, line was okay, 33 seems like a good try but got buzzed to do corporate dinner so had to leave.

To sum up, dry day today, will go hit clubs later on to check out the babes

haha... i was on a suzhou / hangzhou / shanghai trip once.

similar experience. got that in suzhou, when we went to hangzhou, they say that they are the most culture place in china and we were ripped off suzhou, for a group of 4, the bill came up to about the same figure as yours but your barginning skills are better.

after the first night in suzhou (2k for 10 mins). im convinced that i wont fall for it but when in hz, my friend say dont worry as this ktv(only 4 rms with ten gers) is recommended by his contacts. ccb his contacts is actually the farking taxi driver. suspected something is wrong when the waiters get very kancheong when i went to another room to say hi to my other friends whom believed in my friends contact. so after the first bottle is finished, i suggested that we go.

ours is about 5k. but gers are not pretty as they are not hz ppl and we only have a bottle of chivas.

i also asked the figures up front but Dao taller by 1 inch the demon taller by 1 yard. when the billing comes, the friut platter think cost 3k. and behind the manager there is like 7 waiters standing behind him. lan lan, chicken out and oaid. after asking for discount.

actually, all this are hei dian, should go for a reputated ktv recommended by a trusted local or tourguide instead. for us is 1250 per pax which is not a lot but for the experience and the scare, not worth it.

knn, the next morning, when our tourguide (compsny tour so we dont dare to approach our own guide plus female somemore) comes to know about it, told us that we should simply go to a disco and xian, don no how truth, hz gers love foreigners, just speak english amongst ourselves, they will automatically drop hints at you liao.
