Shangrila area is dead. You will have better luck catching a taxi and heading out to the Puxi side of the river. It all depends on where you are having dinner.

too bad about pudong but have my office there. going for dinner at noble house in shangcheng lu near shiji dadao. anything near there ? read in previous posts about a hc referred to as YPHC - bro do you recommend and if so where is it ? thanks again.

Actually if you are in the PuDong area, you could try opposite the Intercontinental on Zhang Yang Road No 777. A couple of OK-Lah karaokes and a HC dedicated to Japanese clients but I fear that the MMs there will be typically PROs so quite mechanical. Alternatively the Courtyard Marriott also nearby has a HC.

YPHC is in the Gubei Hongqiao area. Which is in the west of puxi, the other end of shanghai from pudong.
