At last he is admitting that Liverpool is far behind this season. If he were to stay another season would it help to bring glory of the Priemier League back to Liverpool or at Least improved its standing to 3rd position and stay close to the leaders like Arsenal ; Man U and Chelsea ?

Probably Rafa wants to slowly bring in Skrtel to the first team and as he is an out and out central defender and don't want to leave Carragher out, so he played Carra at right back. We all know Hyypia is in the twilight of his career, so this is eventual.

I would see Carra being a better choice for right back then Risse and Pennant? Anyway, I would think that Rafa didn't choose Finnan or Arbeloa at right back as he wanted Carragher's leadership in organising the defence during set pieces (which was sorely missed against Middlesbrough the week before) and to give more defensive cover for Skrtel and Hyypia.

i think gerrard is 'pool's best right winger. he shld play there on and off. centre midfield can be anchored by the ball winners duo mascherano and alonso, now that they seem to have more understanding of each other. pennant shld be sold.

anyone notice gerrard a bit tired yest's game? his pasing and running a bit off.

Sorry bro pai seh however I don't agree with you on this. Gerrard is best suited for midfield . Alonso seemed to be losing his touch and vision. Whenever Pennant plays he always gives a lot of crosses to the strikers.

When Gerrad plays midfield which is his favourite position he is at his best. But lately rumours sufficed about him again that he is thinking of transfering to another club. It appears he seemd to be quite frustrated with the progress of the club. Will he be leaving in the summer ?

Bro Regaine, think you got left and right mixed up? Yes, I know sometimes Arbeloa plays on left back but he is still primarily a right back. And Finnan on left and Riise on right? Should be other way round?

If I not wrong should be Riise on the right and Finnian on the left Maybe some other experts can confirm tis ? With Carragher and Hypia both as cental defenders.

yes i think sg best position is jus behind the main striker like last nite when kuyt was the right,with alonso n masch in the middle,this gives him more freedom to get forward n make it a 5 man midfield when we defend,remember capello depolyed him on the left for england,so 2 top coaches can t be wrong.i always felt that he is the best attacking midfielder than someone who takes control of the midfield i have nevr seen him do that for pool or england but he s great when pushed into the hole between the striker n midfielders.rememeber the 2005 champs league pushed him into the hole n we got a goal back.i believe thats the best position for him.as usual masch was brilliant last nite,he will make sg a better player for pool if sg stays put at anfield.

Sources at the Premier League claim Liverpool Chief Executive Rick Parry has been sounded about about replacing the unpopular Richard Scudamore says today's People newspaper.

Scudamore's position has been shaky since his plans for a 39th Premiership game to be played abroad were criticised by almost everyone involved in football.

Rick Parry was the Premier League's chief executive at it's foundation in 1993 and could favour a return to his old job although it is said he wants to secure Liverpool's future first.

Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez could be preparing to offload Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher this summer.

The Mail on Sunday are reporting that should Tom Hicks complete his takeover of the club then Benitez will seek to take total control of the playing squad.

Gerrard and Carragher have been pretty much undroppable for the last 6 seasons but Benitez is now starting to bring through his own star players and could be tempted to ship out the home grown stars as he aims to regain full control over the squad.

The Scouse duo have been very influential at the club for some time now, but with Benitez bringing in the likes of Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano, he could take this opportunity to cash in on both Gerrard and Carragher as he aims to rebuild the squad to challenge for the title.

George Gillett Jr ready to trigger Liverpool bidding war

The battle for the ownership of Liverpool escalated last night as Tom Hicks indicated that he is ready to buy out George Gillett Jr, his co-chairman, just as Dubai International Capital (DIC) sought to increase the pressure on the two American owners to accept a £400 million offer that was made to them last week.

It emerged last night that DIC, the private equity investment arm of the Dubai Government, made a formal offer to buy out Hicks and Gillett on Wednesday.

The offer, which has not been rejected, was made by Amanda Staveley, a senior partner at PCP Capital Partners, who once dated Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. The 34-year-old businesswoman is acting as an adviser to DIC and will be given an influential position in the Liverpool boardroom, overseeing the day-to-day running of the club, if the takeover bid is successful.

With discussions continuing behind the scenes, contrary to Hicks's frequent claims, DIC is confident that Gillett will accept its £200 million offer for his 50 per cent stake in the club, possibly even by the end of this week.

But there were claims from Dallas last night that Hicks is ready to exercise his option to buy out Gillett's stake and to assume sole ownership of the club, having secured an off-market placement of his shares in Hicks Sports Group, which includes investments in the Texas Rangers baseball team and the Dallas Stars ice hockey franchise, as well as in Liverpool.

DIC remained unconvinced by the claims from Dallas last night, given that Hicks has appeared to encourage its interest in buying his stake in recent weeks. One source claimed that Hicks could be forced to sell, taking, along with Gillett, a £25million profit on his investment. But no one at Anfield is certain what will happen during a critical week in which the future of the club could finally be determined.
