Chiangmai is pretty safe. There are no worries there with regards to military coup. You see several soldiers on the streets and at the airport, but its tame compared to bangkok.

However, the weather is uncomfortable these days. It is sweltering hot and dry. Songklan cannot come at a better time!!!

Really sorry for the late reply. Have been in the outskirts of vietnam with no access.
I tend to visit the ktvs and negotiate from there. There is a higher chance you will find someone there with more sincere intentions, but you may have to pay a little more. I do not believe in those pubs which the caucasians frequent, girls aren't hot and they all have ulterior motives. If you are bolder and feel like you can atract the girls to you using your charm, then you should try the discos like mandalay, v club or discovery.
Food is cheap in most places, you will be amazed at the quality.
I can't help with the sightseeing.

Everyone said that Chang mai is the best place to go for Song Kran.

Personally I've not been there before. However I'm still enjoying myself in Golden Mile with all the water & powder.

Can anyone share your experience in Chang Mai? What exactly makes this place a better celebration ground as compared to BKK or other parts of Thailand.

Will up with 2 humble points if u shared a detailed experience with us.

In response to your request of my sentiments towards Chiang Mai vs Singapore, i think i can enlighten you further. I'm half thai and i usually frequent Chiang Mai. During Songkran, the mood there is definitely amplified as compared to Golden Mile. Imagine a party along every junction, street and establishment there, along with dancing, music and moving processions.

In Singapore however, the processions are limited and pretty much restricted. Also, there are also concerns in Singapore not to offend any ordinary Singaporeans who may be pissed by the fact they're being "victimised" by the talcum powder and water splashes. Thus, there is only that restricted mood of celebrations in Singapore.

Downside in Chiangmai is, regardless of your nationality or race, they'll still taunt you to be part of the celebration. Until you're an active participater, usually the passive ones will be turned off. Even if you're using your cell phone, or carrying an expensive camera, or even driving there - they'll just powder everything till you can't see and get soaked. There's pretty much minimal restrictions there because the cultural implications are more inclined in Thailand.

It also happens to be better in Chiangmai because, usually its firstly not as crowded as the typical Bkk city, but it has a certain element of tranquility, being in a part urban - suburban area.

My opinion if one were to go there, is that you bring more clothing and also to join in the fun. Yeap.

Thanks to Bro yupbillions & chanthira for their reply. Actually I was with 3 bro out there to enjoy the festival and in the meantime looking for some fun in the city. Went to mandaly as the disco is good but the crowd is more to the local and also due to lanuguage barrier we have some problem with the communication. We stay at the Central hotel and just below the hotel there is this Horizon disco which you can find more english speaking girls. As far as for cheong concern there are nothing much. You need to pick up girls from the KTV which is a better choice than getting girls from the side pub. The price range from the side pub is 400 bath for the shop and the girls will charge 1500 bath but quality is not that good. GZo for the KTV which have better quality and choice and price is range at 2000bath - 3000bath.

Hi Bro, From my experience in CM, KTV's gals are higher in quality,of course you need to pay a higher price for the gals apart from the drinking session expenses. One important factor to take note, always double confirmed the "take away" with the "PaPaSan" or "MaMaSan" wherethe is a short time or an overnight session. My friends & I had encountered such an unpleasant experience that after the "first round" in each room. The gals called each other & left us. I was there for the Songkran.Absolutely no.1 party of all!Take my words!:

Gals wise,go for those KTVs as our language barrier makes it hard to pick up unless you're blessed with a charming personality of course.Discovery is good,lots of good chicks.Even better,try the Monkey Club,lots of SYTs -Thai Uni students chicks there.But as i said,u gotta know their language.And from what i see,most of them will have their local boys tagging along too.Mandalay,IMO is so-so only.The locals see it as a gay disco-lots of pretty boys! so,not a go-go for me.

And do not ask the local tuk-tuk driver there for places to recommend to be on the safe side.They'll just probably take u to massage joints or fish tanks where they take a cut.Sawade Songkran!See u next year!

Something to share about CM. I am here again on a buz trip.
I usually go to a massage place near Horizon, Letz Relax or something like that coz the oil massage is good, place is reasonably clean, and quite cheap at 400B/hr.
If you take a private room (100B more), the girl will usually give one hell of a relaxing and sensual oil massage. I am not talking about teasing, they WILL rub your little brother as part of the leg routine for about 10mins.
HJ is at 500B. Aiya, always go in saying dun want HJ, but always cannot tahan. the ladies for not so young though (late20s - 30s).
