He must had put all some currencies into a pouch/bag and went thru the scanner....custom caught the thick stacks and thus ask him to open up for further check...also ask bro PleasePCC to empty his pockets...

Once found more than USD 5000 without declaration then is up to the custom officers to have a field day...

I used to bring a book...randomly asked to open my pouch for checking...from the scanner looks like lots of papers...

Re: Hanoi

It seems Custom Officers' interpretation of the law was bent to their favour......i do not want to go into details of the law (i spent an hour reading the English translation, which wad broken, at best), but i suggest that for safety, juz bring USD less than 5K and VND. Dun bring other FX. Like my case, the KNNBCCB officers say MYR3 = USD1 and other ridiculous rates were applied to HKD, JPY, etc.

Yes, some bills were in my bag, in a plastic folder.

Re: Hanoi

I am new to this forum and I feel like I should probably at least share my recent mongering experience rather than just ask around for what I want to know without contributing.

Though my next trip is already planned for West China, I was in Hanoi in the beginning of last month. On one particular night during my stay there, I went with 7 travel mates to the renowned Fortuna KTV.

We got there at around 8 pm (ain't sure if we should have arrived earlier to be able to see more beauties). Like expected, 2 lines of girls welcomed us. In our KTV room, The mami divided their gals into 2 initial groups - each comprising around 10-20 gals for our selection and the first group was said to be available for take-out (as we were all staying at another hotel). We mostly settled on our choice from the first group while one mate chose a gal from another group who was said to be not going out and ended up going out because she said she "loved" the guy lol. Another mate chose her gal from the main hall outside the room where there was a live band on stage and dozens of the rest of the KTV girls in open area were standing still - by my criteria, not many were pretty and those we had picked up already trumped them all.. Still, just one or 2 of our gals.. I would describe as beautiful. A bit disappointing overall. However, these gals offered us the best service we ever had both at KTV and in bed. I guess the management there really did a good job training their gals up. Even when you go to the washroom, your gal will keep you company all the way back and forth. Nowhere else have I been treated so professionally. Not even in some of the top KTVs in Dongguan before.

Take-out Overnight price for each gal was 190 USD or equivalent (if you stay at another hotel and we did).

By the way, we all stayed at Silk Queen boutique hotel on that night - upgraded Deluxe room for like 70 USD or so (we actually walked in without booking). A very neat place. We had no complaints except that when you get back to the hotel after midnight (we all did), they will have locked the front glass door which has to be unlocked for your entry manually by a night-shift guard or thingy.

My biggest find on this trip could be the receptionist gal working at this boutique hotel. Such a natural beauty.. she already claimed my solid heart the second I walked into this hotel and saw her.. Even that Fortuna KTV gal barely could cure my Oneitis for her.

Hey guys!

I'll be in Hanoi for 5 days next week. Looking for full service gals, but not the crazy US prices. Where does a hispanic dude meet 'fun' gals?

Re: Hanoi

$190 for a night with a KTV girl, Hanoi is getting more expensive than most cities, including Singapore.

try local sex web sites. There are good selections.

1 dead, 4 injured as tropical storm Dianmu hits northern Vietnam

Thanh Nien News

Saturday, August 20, 2016 11:33

Tropical storm Dianmu, which made landfall in northern Vietnam on Friday afternoon, left one person dead and four others injured, authorities have said.

According to a report by the National Committee for Search and Rescue, a 48-year-old man was killed by the storm in Son La Province. Three people in Hanoi and another in Vinh Phuc Province were hurt by fallen trees.

Eleven houses collapsed and 33 others lost their roofs in the storm. Dianmu also damaged 59 hectares of vegetables and orchards and knocked down 36 utility poles, the report said.

Dianmu was the third storm that hit the country this year. Earlier, Mirinae in July and Nida in early August claimed seven lives in total.

Hanoi lets bars, restaurants stay open longer to boost tourism

Thanh Nien News

HANOI - Thursday, August 25, 2016 10:11

Hanoi has decided to allow restaurants and bars in the downtown Hoan Kiem District to stay open through 2 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, easing a midnight curfew that has somewhat diminished the city's thriving nightlife.

Officials said at a meeting Wednesday that the new hours will take effect
from the beginning of September, and may be applied to weekdays after the trial phase.

The businesses will have to follow regulations including age limits and noise levels.

Currently all restaurants, cafés, nightclubs and karaoke parlors in Hanoi have to close at midnight though bars and clubs at top-tier hotels and resorts are allowed to stay up until 2 a.m.

Nguyen Duc Chung, Hanoi's chairman, said certain bars have been breaking the midnight curfew, so giving them two extra legal hours will facilitate management and make sure tourists are properly served.

Chung alluded to a possible extension to the midnight curfew at a national tourism conference earlier this month, saying that many foreigners consider the night life in Hanoi “a specialty,” and the city should offer more of it.

Many tourists in the capital, as well as Ho Chi Minh City, have complained about the lack of night activities, with some saying they have nothing to do other than drink beer on sidewalks.

Hanoi, a 1,000-year-old city, has become a popular travel destination. It has been named the best value destination by TripAdvisor for three years.

The city received around 3.3 million foreign visitors last year and hopes to get 5.7 million by 2020.
