Bro Sino, both Xia and Shang Chuan Dao's are interesting islands to explore as a group if you look at the link posted by bro Phenom, especially if you like the outdoors and fancy some hiking, trekking and biking. Having lived in NZ for so long now, I enjoy the outdoors very much but not much much fun doing it alone leh....must have a group, especially if we bring a few MM's along, then we can have an orgy out in the open, on the beaches, on the hills, on the rocks, on the grass, among the bushes, up the tree (swinging), in the water, etc... wah, damn shiok man! LOL :-)

So when are we going ahh, CO Sino?

Thanks for the informative post. I could not go but still it is a pleasure to read about your experiences there. I wonder if the MMs would be open for a group session? I always have the thinking that the Chinese are quite conservative people.

From Gongbei bus station in Zhuhai, which is next to LHL, take the bus to Shan Zui (as in mountain mouth), which is the name of the ferry terminal to Xia/Shang Chuan Dao. The bus will display the name “ TO Xia/Shang Chuan Dao”. Sorry, don't know about jiu zhou gang. Make sure you get to the ferry terminal early. Boats can be cancelled due to rough weather and the last sailing is around 5.30pm. You would not want to miss the last boat so be warned!

The normal bus trip from Zhuhai to Shanzui (Xia/Shang Chuan Dao ferry terminal) takes about 1 hr 40 mins. The cost is about RMB45.

At the ferry terminal, make sure that you board the CORRECT boat as there are two islands, one is “Xia” (as in low) and the other is “Shang” (as in up).

If you have already booked your hotel, make sure you ask the hotel to send a vehicle to meet you at the bottom of the hill. (Ring the hotel once you are in the bus on the island.) This is also where the entry gate to the tourist zone is located. Sorry, I can’t remember what the ferry fare. It cost RMB30 to get into the tourist zone.

Shopping is quite basic. So don't expect too much! You can walk on the beach holding hands (of course lah) and get really romantic if you like!

It is just a small boat which sits probably about 30 people. That is why they don't operate even when there is only a slight swell in the waves.

Yes, I would advise you to take some sea sickness pills because the ride is just over an hour and the boat can be a little bit rocky in patches. I hope this does not put you off though!

Try the foot massage there. It is not bad. And oh, the sea egg fried rice is awesome!
