Condoms offer very little protection from Herpes for the simple reason that the virus is transmitted via skin to skin contact.

A condom only covers the shaft of the penis. It does not protect the base of the penis and the rest of the genital area eg the scrotum.

During the sex act, the external parts of the female genitals (labia) will come into contact with areas not covered by rubber and transmission can easily take place. All it needs is a microscopic break in the skin.

Many people have the impression that condoms protect against ALL STDs. They DON'T.

Another virus that can easily be transmitted even when a condom is used is the Genital Wart Virus (HPV). Again transmission is via skin to skin contact.

Yoh Sam so late still haven't sleep? What u mentioned is one thing that I found out quite a while back.. been thinking long and hard about it and has decided i'll "retire" soon. I'm not gonna look back in life and say I didn't have a fun filled one.. heh heh..

I was just tested + for herpes too... . i would strongly advise ALL the bro out there..STOP having pay sex and any type of sex.... other then your gf....

I hate to burst your bubble but you can catch Herpes from girlfriends too.

That's right... even if your girlfriend was a virgin before you popped her cherry, there is every possibility that she could be infected with HSV1 via intimate non sexual contact with parents and relatives during childhood.

If she gives a blowjob during an outbreak, that's it!.... transmission can take place.

Girlfriends that are not virgins have an even higher chance of being both HSV1 and HSV2 positive. It is estimated that 40% of sexually active adults carry the HSV2 virus even though most are asymptotic (no symptoms).

The bottom line is that unless you are going to remain absolutely celebate for life, there is no way of reliably avoiding STDs.

If you ride a bicycle... sooner or later, you're going to fall off no matter how careful you are.

Similarly, if you engage in sexual intercourse, STDs are virtually unavoidable over the long term.
