Betong airport set to open next month.
published : Bangkokpost 19 Aug 2021 at 10:40 newspaper section: Life writer: Karnjana Karnjanatawe Betong International Airport. (Photo © Betong International Airport) Betong International Airport in Yala is likely to open next month, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT). CAAT is currently inspecting the safety and security of the airport. When the process is completed in September, it will issue the certification and license so that the airport can operate for commercial flights. The airport is owned and operated by the state-run Department of Airports. It is located on a 920 rai site about 13km east of downtown Betong in the southernmost province of Yala. The airport can accommodate up to 300 passengers per hour, or 876,000 passengers a year. It has a 1,800m runway which can serve only small 80-seat aircraft like a twin-engined ATR 72 or Q-400 aeroplane. Nok Air is the first airline to show an interest in running passenger flights. It plans to fly from Hat Yai to Betong with an option of a connecting flight to Bangkok. |

Betong airport to open in January.
Bangkokpost on 25/11/2021. Betong airport in the southernmost province of Yala will fully open in January next year, the government spokesman said. Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana, the spokesman, said on Thursday that the new airport in Betong district had a passenger terminal that covered 7,000 square metres and could serve 300 passengers an hour or about 800,000 people a year. It already served governmental and private flights and should be fully opened in January when Malaysia reopens to visitors on Jan 1, Mr Thanakorn said. The new airport would support economic development in southern border provinces and the Tourism and Sports Ministry planned to organise the Amazing Jungle Trail in Betong on May 7 and 8 next year to promote local tourism and stimulate the local economy, the government spokesman said. |

Nok Air to start Don Mueang-Betong flights March 14.
Published : 24 Feb 2022 at 16:51 by Bangkokpost. Nok Air will start services between Bangkok and Betong, with three return flights a week, from March 14, the airline announced on Thursday. Chief executive officer Wutthiphum Jurangkool said in a statement the low-cost airline would operate flights between Bangkok and the new southern airport in Yala province on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. He gave no details of the airfare or the type of aircraft to be used on the new route. Nok Air used a Q400 NextGen, an 86-seat twin-engined turboprop, on the first charter flight from Bangkok to the southernmost district of the country on Jan 29. The start of services to Betong airport has been long delayed, with no clear explanation from transport or airport authorities. |
