firstly, what is your purpose of speaking tieng Viet? you must established that very clearly first. Different purpose will mean you need to take different path to achieve exactly what you wanted to achieve.

Before you go soul searching deep into yourself to answer that question above, maybe i can offer you something to think about.

For me, speaking Tieng Viet is to enhance my chance of getting viet girls. On the contrary, did you know that many a times, viet girls do not like foreigners who can speak Tieng Viet? I have a couple of gf who are like tat. so i had to speak vietnamese with a twist to it in order to get into their panties.

What i realise is this.. Viet girls worried about foreigners guys who can speak Tieng Viet bcos they think these guys knows too much and also sian many girls and cannot be trusted.

So with these kind of girls, if you speak 100% correct Vietnamese, you are likely peeing against the wind.

And if you speak very limited version of Tieng Viet to show that you actually know very little Vietnamese, then they will probably chop carrot you like they do with other customers as well.

The short cut is exactly what Carrot007 has achieved. Within 6 months he knows a little Tieng Viet, and then he choose to focus on the Cultural aspects of Vietnam and he was able to demonstrate that he understood the many fable and stories of Vietnam. With that, many pretty girls only look at him with starry eyes...

I seconded these statement.
I will split the gasl into 2 group

Group 1: Don't like guys speak too much TV as they cannot xao the guys and they think the guys xao many many gals.

Group 2: They don't xao guys alot and felt happy that they met a guy who can speak TV as they can communicate with the guy easily.

Ok looks like I have to go up mountain to search deep deep le. So tiring, a lot of mountain climbing recently

Seriously, since I know a few words here and there, I thought it would be good to know the basics well. And if I wanted to learn, I might as well try to learn the correct stuff right at the very beginning. Don't really have a particular motive at the moment. How far to go to learn TV I will leave that to the future to consider.

Anyway, I am not thong minh like bro carrot. So I will also join the queue and look at him with starry eyes too

That's very true, brother. I used the romantic phrases in this thread and sent sms to my bx in Vn. Then she said that I'm able to send sms in tieng viet is because I have a Vietnamese gf in Singapore!!

When I go and have coffee with her friends, they exchange gossip in Vietnamese, so I'm just like wallpaper on the sofa. Sometimes my bx feed me ice-cream or cake. Then when I get really really bored, I'll tug at my bx's shirt to tell her that it's time to go.

Then when she go out with my friends, me and my buddies sometimes engage in men's talk in Hokkien. She gets mad and shout at me to "Speak English"!!!

Hmm... Sometimes I feel so funny when I think back about all the meetings we had when we are with our respective friends....

Generally true though not always, it depends on what type of the con gai.

For WLs type, yes, what you said is very true. They are experienced and wary enough to know that we pick up TV from their fellow WLs and hence conclude we are players and we xao nhieu nhieu.

But with decent OLs, they are generally quite impressed that I make effort to learn their language (and yes, also their culture). THey are curious and I think I can chat then up easily with my still sub-std TV.

Just speaking from my own experience.
