agree with u bro. sneijder has more qualities for a creative midfielder than modric and is a deadball specialist. hence his bigger price tag.

read from the papers that sir alex is considering an even cheaper option of charlie adams from blackpool. sigh. and i thought sir is ready to splash the cash this summer.

JONES SET FOR UNITED SWITCH

Blackburn defender Phil Jones undergoing a medical at Manchester United , according to Sky Sports.com.

The in-demand centre-half is also a target for Arsenal and Liverpool but it would appear United have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals in a transfer race that could be concluded soon.

Liverpool were thought to be the early front-runners for the England Under 21international but Sir Alex Ferguson, is set to land a player many believe will be a mainstay for the senior national side for years to come.

It is understood United have offered the player a five-year contract, despite widespread reports he was to undergo a medical at Liverpool's training ground.

The 19-year-old was supposed to travel to Denmark on Wednesday with the England Under 21s for this summer's European Championship.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

SUNDERLAND TARGET MAN UNITED TRIO

Sunderland have wasted little time in attempting to bolster their squad in anticipation of Jordan Henderson's imminent departure after submitting a triple bid to Manchester United.

It is understood the Black Cats have tabled a joint offer amounting to in excess of £12million for defender Wes Brown, midfielder Darron Gibson and a third member of Sir Alex Ferguson's first-team squad.

The move came as Henderson's £20million switch to Anfield edged closer to completion.

England international Brown, 31, was at one stage earlier in his career touted as the new Bobby Moore, but a succession of injury problems has hampered his progress in recent years.

Gibson too has had to remain patient as he seeks a regular place in United's star-studded midfield, and the 23-year-old's Republic of Ireland boss, Giovanni Trapattoni, has on more than one occasion suggested he might benefit from a move to a club where he would play every week.

Sunderland have been quick to press home their interest in the trio less than 24 hours after reaching agreement with Liverpool over Henderson.

The third player linked is said to be utility man O'Shea.

Young close 2 United switch

Ashley Young is close 2 sealing a transfer 2 Premier League champions ManU, according 2 reports on Friday.

Young, 25, is set 2 sign 4 Alex Ferguson's side aft he returns fr holiday, ending his 4-year spell in the Midlands. The Aston Villa winger has long been linked with a move away fr the Birmingham outfit & is rumoured 2 hv turned down a new contract @ Villa Park.

The fee 4 the England international is thought 2 be around £16 million & he looks set 2 follow compatriot Phil Jones as United's 2nd high-profile capture of the transfer window, although the deal 4 Phil Jones has hit a snag over price.

Sunderland boss Steve Bruce, who spent 8 years as a player @ ManU & is also trying 2 buy 3 of United's players, told ESPNsoccernet: ''Ashley Young is a terrific signing 4 Sir Alex. There r not too many naturally good wide players these days, & Young is 1 of the best, so he will naturally enhance the United team.

"But the fact tat United r willing 2 spend big $, @ record levels in 1 go 4 the club, shows wat ManU r all abt, they r continually evolving.

"They hv lost Paul Scoles, & know Ryan Giggs cannot go on 4ever, but they never stand still, & the way Sir Alex is going abt his bz @ the moment show tat he means business. 1s again ManU will be the benchmark 4 the new season. Can anyone catch them... well, I would doubt it."

Young scored 7 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last season, in addition 2 scoring twice for Fabio Capello's England team.

Ashley Young was born on 9 Jul 1985 & is currently 25 yrs old.

ManC need 2 do much much more 2 catch up with SAF & ManU.

bro, your team from the blue half of manchester has so much dinars to spend. so no worries, am sure they'll sign a couple of marquee players soon. last heard they were chasing marek hamsik of napoli and sniffing around sneijdner too?

or is mancini busy trying to persuade tevez to stay on?

as for united, saf has indeed moved fast after the season has just closed. phil jones and ashley young are done deals.

goalkeeper de gea should sign after the euro u21's. one more midfielder to buy and we are done. who will that be? sneijder? modric? nasri?

look like SAF and MU is going for an almost total refreshment.
going to get rid of quite a number of present players.
next season will still be our year.
i think SAF will retire if he can get another Champion League title.

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

Five-year United deal for Young

England winger Ashley Young has signed a five-year contract with Manchester United after the champions agreed a fee with Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old underwent a medical on Wednesday and the transfer, reported to be worth between £16million to £20million, has been finalised.

He becomes Sir Alex Ferguson's second signing of the summer after the capture of England Under-21 international Phil Jones from Blackburn for £16.5million.

"The opportunity to come and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world is one I couldn't turn down," Young told MUTV. "It's a chance to hopefully become part of the history by helping to win the 20th title.

"It's a prospect I always looked at from being a child - to play for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"I've got that opportunity now so I've just got to take it with two hands."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will hope Young can play a key role as he begins overhauling the squad which won a record 19th title in May.

The forward scored 39 goals in 193 appearances but, significantly, in the last five Premier League seasons only Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas has provided more assists.

Despite United finishing nine points clear of second-placed Chelsea last season, Ferguson always knew he would have to make changes to the playing staff.

The retirements of midfielder Paul Scholes, right-back Gary Neville and goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar left huge holes in terms of experience while other exits - such as defender Wes Brown - are expected.

Injury-plagued Owen Hargreaves' release this summer freed up another place in the squad while veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs will be 38 in November and centre-back Rio Ferdinand has struggled with his fitness over the last couple of years.

To that end the Red Devils boss has moved quickly in the transfer market by bringing in two of England's brightest talents.

In doing so he has also stolen a march on arch-rival Kenny Dalglish at Liverpool, who was interested in both Young and Jones.

The spending will not stop there, however, as next on the list is the replacement for Van der Sar.

It seems likely Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David De Gea will be the one to fill that key position, with Ferguson revealing a few weeks ago United had been working on the transfer for some time.

The 69-year-old Scot is also keen to add more creativity to his midfield as, despite comfortably winning the 12th Barclays Premier League title of his tenure at Old Trafford, his side were comprehensively outplayed by Barcelona in last month's Champions League final at Wembley.

United have been linked with both Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez - although Barcelona still seem favourites to clinch that deal - and Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

Villa, who signed Young from Watford in January 2007 in a deal eventually worth £10million, were resigned to losing one of their prize assets as he had only a year left on his contract and had made it clear he was not interested in renewing it.

"Ashley has made a terrific contribution for Villa over the past four-and-a-half seasons and everyone at the club wishes him the best for the future," said new Villa boss Alex McLeish.

"He has become an important player in the England team during that time and I'm sure he will be looking forward to this new challenge."

Apparently, old man SAF is set on selling our EPL top scorer Berbatov.... really cannot figure him out. Last year when Berbatov was not scoring....he said not too worry.

SAF would rather keep Giggs than retain proven strikers..... weird lah.

bro AC, not wierd lah. while it's true that berba was last season's top scorer, most of his goals were scored against the weaker teams of the league (hmmm, he scored a hat-trick agst Pool....).

more importantly, he has lost his place alongside rooney to chicharito who has really been nothing short of a sensation in his debut season for us.

sir alex has offered owen an extension of his deal instead of off-loading him and keep berba. isn't that a strong enough signal for berba to move on?

united will also have promising young strikers danny wellback and frederico macheda back from loan spells too.

we have rooney, chicharito, owen, wellback, macheda. guess selling berba now, rumoured to worth 12m pounds, will make economic sense than letting him leave for free by end of the new season.

onward to the 20th title!

Re: Manchester United's Headliners, Articles and Rumours

De Gea undergoing United medical

Atletico Madrid goalkeeper David de Gea has arrived in England and is undergoing a medical ahead of his proposed move to Manchester United.

The Spain Under-21 keeper has been identified by Sir Alex Ferguson as the long-term successor to Edwin van der Sar at Old Trafford.

United are prepared to spend upwards of £17million in order to secure his signature, with it widely agreed that he is the most promising shot-stopper in Europe.

De Gea underlined his obvious potential on Saturday as he helped Spain to European U21 Championship glory.

Having put transfer discussions on hold while he competed in that tournament, he is now prepared to push ahead with a move to England.

De Gea has been pictured arriving at the Bridgewater Hospital and is all set to put the finishing touches to an agreement with United.

His arrival at Old Trafford will see the Red Devils push their summer spending spree past the £50million mark and continue with their policy of snapping up bright young talent.

Such is the Spaniard's reputation that compatriot and Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina, who seems likely to face De Gea when the north-west rivals clash at Anfield on October 15, reacted positively to the player's move.

"I very much welcome this news because David is a great keeper," he told La Gaceta.

"When it becomes official he is going to start working to prove in the Premier League what a good goalkeeper he is."

Following the retirements of Van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville from last season Ferguson has moved quickly to strengthen in three areas, bringing in players who all - in theory - should have their best years ahead of them.

The Red Devils boss is believed to want to add more creativity to his midfield and has been linked with Inter Milan's Wesley Sneijder and Arsenal's Samir Nasri.

Ferguson has already acquired England Under-21 centre-half Phil Jones from Blackburn and England winger Ashley Young from Aston Villa.

Bro mr_missile...... would be exciting to watch our 2 young GKs, they are definitely better than Thomas K.

I will however miss Berbatov's silky ball control.....

Welcome Ashley Young.... he seems a good signing.

Actually, our 2012 team is shaping up rather well....

Now for the 20th title !!!!!
