From what I heard, DELL is assembled here in China, not from Penang. IBM seems to be more costly than DELL here in China. The locals would definitely go for imported brands or foreign brands as usual....overseas brands are always better ma!

Should u wann abuy mobile phones, still cheaper to buy in back home, SGP or cheaper still in HKG if u happen to be there on a trip bro...

I am surprised you only had a hit rate of 40% for the last trip. Btw, if I were you, I wouldnt want to try the 'is my below tight or not', as by now, I believe its as loose as anything. I have not ventured out for a good while as one of my BJ 'friends' came to visit me and has been with me for the past 2 weeks. If you are looking to buy a phone locally ( eg Nokia, Erricson,Samsung) beware of fake phones. They look exactly like the real phone ( minor difference sometime in the logo) but that is only the outer casing, inside it is just a local branded phone like BIRD or something similar. Saw this in some Shanghai shops and I was truly amazed that they can copy right down to such details.

Thank you all for the help and advise during my stay in Shanghai...

It made my stay in the "Tuas" of Pudong feel a lot more pleasant. Apologies I din get to say goodbye to u all as I was down with a flu since thurs..

I finally made it back to Singapore on Fri night altho the 2nd day of flu was really killing me... I was kinda worried they'll turn me around at the airport...

Anywayzz I'll look forward to going back soon and meeting all of u again... for the cook-in and the parties... heehee

i hope i can go back when the weather is less hot tho... any hope that you bros here can assist with a more accurate weather update? haha

Actually, most Chinese phones manufacturers started out as just assembly houses, they buy the kits from companies like Motorola in Tianjin, Nokia or Ericcson, including the software source codes which they modify to suit local conditions, or just to slightly differentiate from the original, slap on their own local designed covers and brands and voila! a Chinese phone.

Many have shifted into their own designs, profit margins are larger this way, but features are very much dependent on the chip makers. With double digit growth in new phone sales with no end in sight, it's like owning a mint. Although foreign branded phones are still very much desired, they're like Ferrraris', and local phones, with prices a fraction of foreign phones, are still the staple with the locals.

Same sentiments on the mobile phones batteries products....kenna conned by bloody locals here as well many atimes. Was told original batteries, etc yet end up fake ones....hell!

Indeed HKG offer cheaper mobile phones....even cheaper than SGP.

Actually, I have bought several Sony Ericsson phone batteries produced in China, not fake ones (i.e. with Sony Ericsson labels but faked in China). They are cheaper and performance wise is quite good. I bought them at a counter at the basement of Pacific Emporium at Huai Hai Lu.

Maybe I am lucky.

My 1 cent worth.
