HPV is very common. It is estimated that at least 70% of the population is infected. Amongst whores, the infection rate is even higher.

I would venture to say that ANYONE who indulges in commercial sex regularly is infected. However, most don't show any symptoms so they are not aware that they harbour the virus.
70% of the population?
so legal whores can continue to work even if they r infected?
come to think... walking in geylang streets is just as dangerous where sweet walkers often pull and scratch your hand... since auto transmission via hand is possible.. no direct contact to infected area is required.. though chances r low..

sorry abt the double post...
could shift the replies to the other thread? thx.

There is no quick and easy test for HPV. Nobody knows who is infected and who isn't. Most people who are infected don't show any symptoms.

Read the following articles :

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases...0111121630.htm (reveals an 82% infection rate amongst sexually active teenages)

http://virus.stanford.edu/papova/HPV.html (40% of ALL students infected)

http://www.fda.gov/womens/getthefacts/hpv.html (estimates that at least 50% of all people who are sexually active have caught the virus)

http://www.cancer.org/docroot/CRI/co...V_Vaccines.asp (estimates a 50% infection rate)

If all the geylang legal prostitutes who were HPV positive were sent home, there would be NO legal whores left to service you.

Condoms do not prevent the transmission of the HPV virus as the virus is passed from one person to another via skin to skin contact at areas not covered by the condom.. eg the base of the penile shaft and the scrotum.

Re: Wrong diagnosis? Need help, recommend doctor

went back to dsc after work today... shdnt have done so...

saw a female doc... & she said since i have already started treatment and the area is burnt.. cant really make a diagnosis..
i tried to locate more small pimples which I found after very careful self examination... but at the clinic...maybe due to poor lighting again.. anyway they r small...so i cant really locate... finally found 2 (shd be more)... show her.. she only took 1 far look and say those are not... but i told her those look like one of the 2 pimples which i got treated...

in the end, told me to let doc check again be4 my next treatment...
also told me there is another method besides visual examination which is cut off the pimple to send for examination..which dsc dont do it.. & which is also drastic to cut it off.

well... if the evidence is destroyed, partially destroyed by the 1st nitrogen treatment or no new evidence.. then whether i really got it..will be question mark....

i'm thinking of consulting national skin centre...
since they r skin specialist..
but do they keep my records confidential like dsc? like some hospitals.. they may call or send invoice/receipt or appointment notice to your home..

Well still better complete the treatment just to be on the safe side. In such cases self-deception only does you more harm. Here's hoping that you will be all right.

Re: Wrong diagnosis? Need help, recommend doctor

have been 3weeks since i noticed some very small bumps at scrotum.. at both sides.. actually quite a lot... only that 2 of them r more easily noticed at first..

now went back to dsc for the 3rd time not long ago..

in short...
1st doc say its genital warts. as result went for 1 session of nitrogen treatment
2nd doc dun wana give comments. ask me to go back again another time
now this 3rd doc say they r not genital warts saying they look part of my blood veins (may be caused by varicocele)... ask me to stop watever treatment and to go back in few weeks to 1mth's time to reconfirm...

have been reading on this skin disease for the past weeks..
it seems that it can be very easily caught... may be spread even through hands or towel contact (no definite scientific proof)...

however.. misdiagnosis of this disease is common... because there could be other reasons for the "growth".. & visual inspection may not be accurate.
in order to be accurate.. the growth must be cut down in small surgery for further inspection...

Bro birdbrain,

That was precisely why I told you to seek a second opinion with the NSC. They are dermatologists, so they should know more than just to take a visual inspection and dismisses it. For your information, any growth (even if it's benign) excised from the skin will always be sent for lab runs at the NSC, which partially explains the high accuracy in a NSC diagnosis.

DSC seems to have failed in this regard. Then again, they do not specialise in dermatology. At NSC your information is kept within a general patients database. They may become accessible to your referring doctor's office/clinic if you go the them through they polyclinic. However, you are still protected under the medical records privacy act. No one outside of the medical profession would be able to gain access to them - and the staffs have more than their fair share of reports and diagnosis to plough through every day. Your report's nothing new to them. There's really nothing to worry about.

Good to hear that finally someone's talking sense now. Wait and go back to DSC during your next appointment. If not you may want to pay NSC a visit.

They will remind you of your appointment with the NSC through SMS notifications. Invoices and other billing practices are similar to that at both the SGH and NUH. However, the statement will not reflect specifically the treatment provided - generic terms like "consultation" or "out-patient surgery" will be stated instead.

Relax, many people visits the NSC for a wide range of ailments not, who cares what you underwent? Even folks with acne problems or hair loss seeks treatments there too!
