Let me share a short story on an old flame and I call her Ivy. names are not real la.

And so i was early as Earl - whom I borrowed the bike helmet had to rush somewhere. Drew made further jibes and jokes and they both continued to throw barbs at me while i was busy cooking the patties.

It was late afternoon crowd at the student union partly because a Lacrosse game had just ended and some of the folks were passing by the union on their way back to the dorm rooms or heading to the carpark.

I told Drew we were going off for dinner and then the movie. It was some Indie film that I cant remember now... wait oh ya ... it was some movie called something like Dakota whatever... anyway it was about some crime thriller in a small town deep in winter and about one used car sales rep etc..

It was already closed to 345pm and the crowd was still packing into the student union hall and lobby. It didnt help that it was also getting little rainy (light drizzle) which is typical late autumn weather

Drew noticed that I was looking at my watch and me and Ivy exchanging glances at each other.

Drew: Dude, just go. Leave it to me I can manage.

Me : Na.. its ok.. its a 930pm movie and we still have time.

She turned to look at me and at the clock and at the crowd in the union

Ivy : Hey Drew can you man the counter, I am going ask Jules if he can help out till we close.

Jules was one of the guys manning the coffee stall next to us and the coffee stall always had extra people around on Saturdays anyways.

Ivy tucked under the counter top and went to find Jules, while I continued to stack the patties and throw some buns to warm at the grill.

Drew headed to man the counter. He spoke out to the last couple at the end of the line and told them that they were indeed the last customers to be served and asked them how many burgers they were ordering.

I tip toed and checked the line of customers. It was like 12 people standing in line.

I went to the fridge and opened up another box of patties and also the cheese packs. And Ivy came back with Jules and got him to man the counter as he was familair with the cash register.

Drew rejoined me in the grill and Ivy took off her apron and kissed me lightly on the cheek as we did not get a chance to greet each other when I arrived at the union earlier.

I tossed my last 4 patties as Ivy went off to wash her hands and changed out of greased smell polo tee shirt.

Drew : dude, go on, go wash up, I am fine now that Jules is here. We can manage. have good evening buddy.
