Just to check, if I plan to mainly pay using alipay/wechat pay which is linked to my youtrip card, do I still need to have someone transfer me RMB into my Ali wallet? or is that transfer process to enable the Alipay account to make transactions? Thanks in advance |

I only asked someone to transfer RMB to my Aliwallet. I have linked CC as back up. Also I am able to delete any transaction on Alipay. I prefer this transfer method as it is straight forward. I know the exchange rate before I spend. To each their own I say. If you prefer CC then go for it. Just try it out before you reach China just in case.

Re: Guangzhou ... New Chapter
I have linked my youtrip card to both platforms and have done the verification process already. Just hope both will work when I reach China because I don't plan to bring much cash since its not widely used over there.

YouTrip works well with both WeChat and Alipay; and there is no transaction fees. Using other credit card like Citibank etc will incur an International Card Fee of around 3%. I have just used YouTrip linked WeChat for my business trip in China last week and it has been a breeze.

Hope you have yet to embark on your trip and it is not too late for me to share this information with you.. Linking YouTrip or CC to Alipay only allows you to make payments to merchants (e.g. when you eat in restaurants or buy things from shops etc.) and also if you intend to use DiDi in the Alipay app for bookings of cabs/transport.. The above does not allow you to make transfer of funds to another person.. This means if you intend to pay some girl or tip someone for their extra services.. You cannot use the above to do so... You can only do so if there are funds available in your "wallet" inside Alipay.. Below is where you can check if you have any funds inside your "wallet" in Alipay.. 1. Click on "Account" at the bottom right of Alipay home screen. 2. Click on "Balance" to see available funds in the wallet of Alipay. As shared by Bro drydick, the only way to get the funds into your "wallet" is to get someone to transfer it into your "wallet".. For me, i got my friend who is a China citizen to do so.. I heard there are avenues whereby you can get some shops (i think in the Chinatown area) to do it for you.. but it is likely that they will charge you some service/admin fee.. Alternatively, try to see if any of your Chinese friends (e.g. the female ones working here) are willing to help you on this before you go over? Although I would say most of them can receive funds transfer from Alipay "wallet" but there are the occasional odd ones out who was unable to do so.. Hence, i had to trouble my friend to do WeChat transfer on one occasion during my last trip in December 2023.. So above information shared are accurate as of December 2023.. Not sure if there are changes or improvements in the last few months?

Re: Guangzhou ... New Chapter
have been having a few hits and misses with massage delivery apps.
For GZ, its mostly misses but really good hits in Shanghai and other parts of Eastern China. Just ordered one just now, came to my room totally different from the picture but I guess to many, still a doable 6 with a medium c rack. But she quoted 1.5k for full which i rejected. No point spending that amount when a good shanghai shag from the same apps gets you closer to a 8.5. |

Re: Guangzhou ... New Chapter
Need some info n assistance.
Will be in Guangzhou soon. Want to make a day trip to Dongguan. Will be taking the train from Guangzhou East Station to Dongguan. Then taking the MRT from Dongguan station. For massage n shopping. Which MRT station in Dongguan would be good? Don’t want to be moving around stations. Go in the morning and return to Guangzhou at night. |

I think you did not read my post correctly.. I am also unable to transfer or top up my wallet in Alipay and WeChat using SG linked credit cards.. I have to get my friend who is from China to do so.. which is why I suggest that Bros here may like to approach their friends from China for help in topping up or transferring of funds into wallet for Alipay and WeChat.. Alternatively, I heard previously from my friend that there are shops in the Chinatown area (can try People's Park Centre or People's Park Complex but I not sure) which provide such services.. Any bros here who is able to top up by themselves their wallet in Alipay and WeChat can share how to do it? TIA..
