Lets say i start the ball rolling by sharing my unpleasant experience with brudders here so that they be careful when they are in batam. Just a small contribution to this thread........

Got to know the previous Executive Chef Of Island View cos I stay there quite often. One morning, he approached me saying that he can get his personal driver to drive me to view some cina gals who has decent job in the day and can work as part time FL.. he quoted me Rp250,000. I just smile smile ..

I don't encountered serious con cases over at batu, balai or Tp. If I am plain suay (as you claimed), I would have share my experiences with samsters here. Minor cases like being shortchanged by the "farmers" are quite common be it at eating places, taxi etc. Over at the above three places, i could walk alone even at nite with no feeling of uneasiness. No stares or "farmers" pestering you (though at times we have holligan drivers at the jetty gate at TP) when you walk along the road at nite. But i cant say the same for batam.

In fact, this afternoon i just came back from batam. Wow, complete change compared to 4yrs back. Batam Centre much better than batu ampar. Ok, slight improvement at the jetty. No more those touts at the ctr. But at Nagoya, still have some "farmers" giving you that kind of unfriendly stares. I already immune to it! PLANET HOLIDAY...thumbs up man! The casino...SUPERB! Heard prices of petrol going up soon at batam. Be prepared to cough out more for your tpt....

I cant agree with you more! Thats why I still stand by my statement never trust those "farmers" 100%! Especially if it involves business venture, make sure it goes thru' legal channel. As for entertainment or lobang to cheong, those indonesian "farmers" (whether they are chinese, jawa, batak, padang etc...) just needed to be tipped & you will be comfortably taken care of. I believe another decade or two, their government and their people mentality would still remain unchanged i.e. bribery, corruption, nepotism, frauds.....would still be permanent features in this country of thousands pathetic island!

From a different perspective, we sort of have a comparative advantage (or take advantage ??) when we hop over since their certain aspects of living standards/public administrations is 'not so good' by Sg standards.

I would consider myself very fortunate to live, work and stay in Sinkapor.
